The silent modding scene

mod scene rather silent?
I was wondering if i’m not just missing something here, but I get the feeling the modding scene has borderline died out already. I haven’t seen any new proper mods come out or go into development for quite a long time now. i’m particularly referring to the nexus page and on this forum’s modding section.

I know modding takes a Lot of time, but in an active modding community there would pop up a lot of ideas and teaser/early projects. Haven’t seen any of these lately. The only ones that seem to be remain are DAIL and Grim Quest. What’s up?

No, in fact Grimillarion, http://www.grimdawn.com/forums/showthread.php?t=46352, was just put out. I think you’ve not been paying attention.

What mod project are you working on?

Grimmilarion isn’t as much a new mod as it is a compilation of existing work. It’s the same as DAIL, but on an even bigger scale.

I am not working on any mod, as I don’t have the knowledge, experience, and time to do that myself.

So what are you looking for in an active modding scene? Is it the number of moderrs, the number of mods, a certain number of posts?

You’ve mentioned not being experienced in mods, don’t seem interested in learning to mod, and didn’t make a suggestion for a mod.

It seems that if people want an active mod scene then the above are needed.

If there aren’t modders, if there are no ideas for mods, and if people don’t want to learn to mod; then I guess the mod scene will be silent.

What do others think? Is this an issue? Is it just a perception/vague feeling?

If you please, tell me how you arrived at this idea. I need to seriously alter the presentation of Grimarillion if you can say that.

I had the same impression. Hard to avoid when the first sentence contains the words “combined” and “union.”

Grimarillion is not “the same as Dail, but on a bigger scale”. In fact it’s quite the opposite. The reason why they chose the wording ‘unification’ is because Grimarillion is a symbiotic life form of it’s own. It is a smaller, more compact, but because of that more polished effort to improve the Grim Dawn experience. They had a vision of how a unified modded experience would feel and individually chose the elements to achieve that. Dail merges it all. There is no planned form in Dail. And some enjoy that. In fact it’s the most popular mod out there.

Don’t get me wrong. I fully support Davood’s efforts to try to fix the fundamental flaw of GD’s modding platform. Motherfucker invested months of his free time in it (added, needs to be emphasized - tsup Davood!). Since the mods truly are not modular and load up exclusively, unless you “code” them together yourself, Dail was the first effort on a bigger scale to solve the issue of not being able to experience multiple mods at the same time.

I blame Crate for that. And maybe in the future that issue will be taken care of. Maybe the issue is entrenched deeper in how Grim Dawn is built, so there really isn’t any viable solution. Maybe.

But what I don’t like about DAIL, is the mess of it all. It’s the bugs that end up stifling the modding efforts, because the origin of bugs is lost in the sea of merged mods. It’s the fact that some mods have an overarching effect that trivializes Grim Dawn’s content and makes it too easy and pointless. And last but not least, and that is my opinion only, individual modders become faceless contributors of the bigger mod. Again. If GD had a modular modding platform (think Minecraft or Torchlight for example), this would not be a problem.

Again. This is crucial here. I don’t blame Davood for it. Crate called it upon themselves. The modding platform is extremely limiting and needs improvements.

Not to mention many mods are still in progress, like mine. These aren’t just turds you can push out effortlessly. It takes a loot of time and patience to work with the editor and create exactly what you want.

To improve presentation i would advice to make shitload of screenshots that shows new features, maybe some form of trailer that shows what each mod do and then combined gameplay and also i recommend putting mod on some reputable modding sites like nexus or moddb.
Also when it comes to thread here on forums, good text formatting (fonts, colors, make it to look like advertisememnt a little, etc…) works wonders.

How you doing, Asylum. Never had the pleasure of exchanging words with you. Or moans.

Just wanted to clarify that some turds don’t go out that easy. It takes force. Will. Time and humility. It takes a man to do the job.

Most mods are already on nexus mods, and some are on moddb.

Creating trailers is a bit much. We upload simple screenshots demonstrating new features all the time.
