Got slightly bored with GD, so I’m thinking about installing TQ again. The catch is, I find first 20 levels extremely boring, chances of me dropping the game early are very high. I, uh, need a class that burns through normal at high speed and at the same time isn’t terribly gear dependant later on (read as “can farm legendaries while not dressed in them”). For now my only idea is a dream caster morphed into spear haruspex later on. Pretty terrible one, since I would have to spend attribute points in str/dex, while int being very important for dream casters. So, I’m asking if anyone has a better idea - there are a lot of tq veterans after all. I don’t know TQ that well myself.
I will play a basic game with addon and with fanpatch, no other mods.
Check the mainstream titan quest build compendium thread. I’m playing the very first build, club and shield conqueror. It was pretty boring in the beginning for me too but I’m progressing through Act 1 Epic completely self found and it tears through everything super easy, only problem being energy consumption cos of Onslaught and Shield Charge, but it’s not like I’m going to have problems with that with 11m gold.
You can go for DW Harbinger too but self found is going to be harder with that as it’s a more fragile spec.
If you want the first 20 levels to be more fun, as well as the rest of the game you can try the xMax mod and increase the monster count by 3, that will make early leveling a lot easier and the game a bit more fun (bosses also multiply by 3). I didn’t do this though as I wanted a completely vanilla experience.
I had played DW harbringer, a very fun yolo class. DW assasin was pretty cool too. DW spellbreaker as well. But my only legendary DW class was a Thane. The issue I have with DW is that it starts being fun after you get t32 warfare - which is the exact thing I’d like to avoid. Same issue with bow/spear builds. Defense is better in that respect cuz there’s batter and shield charge.
I also want a vanilla experience, mods tend to break nostalgic feelings.
Checked this mainstream build compendium. Neat thread. But not exactly practical for me since it’s impossible to grasp if the build is easy to level up and easy to gear up.
I’m now inclined towards warden or corsair or maybe paladin. Warden would be the best but I’ve played it already. :undecided:
Not quite. It’s completely possible to go full DW at about level 5-6, and once you get Onslaught and Weapons Training maxed it’s insanely fun. As long as you keep selling every yellow you find you’ll never run out of cash for potions, just avoid archers as they seem to be doing a lot of damage(mostly because they’re 100% pierce) and you should have fun and do fine.
Also a good Harbinger leveling relies on you getting Dream for the trance of damage reduction(whatsitsname) and the damage bonus passive and after that it just snowballs.
You can’t really avoid those very early levels.I’d vouch for a bow brigand, since you can get scattershot @~lvl14 and go from there.
If you absolutely want a Haruspex, I’d suggest you make lots and lots of patience as you grab Trance of Wrath and Distort Reality’s Temporal Rift, as it will make the game much faster, and will allow you to go spear from the beginning. Or you go for the scattershot cheese and respec to spear later.
Spellbreakers are mighty fun, but they aren’t eye-popping early on.
A warden flies through the game once you get it going with volley and shield procs ~lvl30, but you may slow down a bit in Legendary depending on gear.
Now that I think about it, bows could be pretty easy. Just max Marksmanship and oneshot everything - there’s also benefit of not running up close to every ranged monster. Once there’s enough points it’s possible to respec into Scattershot. And even into spears just a bit later. Hmm…
I wonder if Battle Rage could be an easy early path for Warfare.
No, I’m not dead set on Haruspex, just it was the first thing that came to mind, and I never had haruspex, unlike bow brigand.
I didn’t catch that at first. I know Xmax was fun. At the same time when you get to later game there is a mod (I know no mods but this could be for much later, after you have beaten the game) that only multiplies mobs by three. I believe it is called 3x. It just gives you more mobs to kill. It lessens the grind for endgame experience but still has the feeling of nostalgia. The main thing for me was having areas with some density to mop up.
I reinstalled Titan Quest today. Now to find the time to play.
Playing without any of the xmods is annoying because TQ is so goddamn easy until you hit legendary, xmods at least add a bit of challenge at first, and then again at each boss fight when you struggle to kill 3 of the same boss rather than one. (the gorgons are a nightmare, 9 bosses, ouch)
Another difficulty mod that ramps the difficulty without simply adding a buttload of cannon fodder is Achilles mod, now that is a fun mod.
Levels up fast in the beginning and can farm its own gear latter on -> do a Ranger.
Start with nature, maxing Call of The Wild and putting 1 level in Heart of Oak for the speed boost. Wolves will clear everything very fast and you will have a better move speed to progress faster.
Then take hunting and start working your way on Marksmanship and Art of The Hunt trees. Of course, take Wood Lore too. Art of The Hunt helps your wolves too and adds some nice damage since most enemies in the first acts are beasts or beastmen.
Titan Quest - suggest me a class.
Evoker, based on what you’re looking for.
Actually just brought a Champion into the 70s. Its a lot of fun, I’ve found. I hadn’t ever taken a Champion past the lower 50s before. Requires some good items though, I’d say.
My favorite character was my Spellbreaker, Evil Lynn. A whirlwind of death that survived on damage converted to health. I loved watching her health bar jump all over the place. I opted to go the pet-less route. The only thing I had to watch out for were those damned archers in the underworld.
