So normally when a raid is incoming I man the towers and form up around the gates with my armies. I probably see 10 to 20 deaths between the villagers and armies combined, and anywhere from 5 to 15 buildings (mostly fences) destroyed.
This time I decided to bring 96 of my bravest and brightest out to them and take them head and an see what happened.
It was a decisive victory, only 1 casualty. 96 to 119 at the main attack. There was a small second raid that I wasn’t aware of that had 22 raiders in it, that got 1 building and new deaths, which my towers addressed.
Main attack
So I did it again… TOTALLY different out come. They had 70 more soldiers this time, but I figured with as well as it went last time, no biggie… well… It hurt… I won… kinda… but it hurt lol
Hats off to you. I’m currently at 316 population, taking it slow, with a sad 16 soldiers and 16-18 guards.
Out of curiousity, do you have any tips for supporting a large standing army? Right now I’m relying a ton on manufacturing gold ingots. Trading has seemed hit-or-miss, and I’ve been trepidatious to sink tons of money into decorations for housing desirability.
Also, did that army have seige rams? I’m curious how those are defeated, just brute force?
I don’t keep a standing army. I leave all but 4 of my towers empty and all my barracks empty. I only fill them every 4th year. Right now, 90% of the time the raiders come every 4th year, so I only pay gold for about 6 to 10 months out of 48. Every once and awhile they slip a 3rd year attack in, and it’s a bit of a scramble, but still manage to make it.
There was just 1 ram in this raid, but it died in the initial onslaught.
What I normally do, when I am getting ready for an attack, I assign free labour to towers, and then pull on my mining and work camp workers for the barracks. If you start in winter, this normally gives enough time to be fully prepared by the time the attack comes. If I have to scramble to fill spots, I normally reduce fire wood but 50% and saw mills, then what ever other manufacturing I feel I have a good buffer in. I buy most my clay and bricks so I empty the brick maker, I also empty the armorer and the basket maker as it’s normally too late to make more armour and baskets go out quite slowly.
Then as soon as they start running away, I reset all the labour.
Oh wow, that’s an awesome idea. I didn’t realize that the raids are only every 4 years (approximately). Do you have issue with the armor and weapons disappearing into the void, or do the soldiers leave them behind? I’m going to have to try that method, cut down on my expenses.
