[Tool] Grim Dawn Item Assistant

You get an error moving the file to %appdata%…\local\evilsoft\iagd\data?
The actual moving of the file produces the error?

Yes. Copying
I does it when it tries to overwrite the blank .db file

What about deleting the original db and then moving the back up file over after so there isn’t an overwrite procedure?

I’ve noticed on my PC it requires administrative privileges to even browse the file directory, so perhaps you’re getting a rights conduct with the overwrite process?

Taken care of with ownership of both files in both directories. I made sure ownership was mine in both folders/files and tried even just moving the folders themselves to a blank evilsoft folder. Also checked the parental rights and made sure to pass all rights to child objects and sub-folders. Turned off UAC and even logged into the admin account as well.

EDIT1 - Trying to move the program with another program and its reporting CRC errors with the .db file.
EDIT2 - The program is also reporting that this file is FAT and not NTFS. All my drives are NTFS - haven’t used FAT since Win2000 :).
EDIT 3 - Just did a system restore to 2 weeks ago and still get the same error code.

EDIT 4 - I would ask to send you the file to see if you can get it to work. It has almost 3 years of farming in it and would hate to lose it. If so add 1 health pot so the CRC value gets updated and maybe will fix my issue. Would very much appreciate any help with this.

EDIT5 - Ever try or see something like this program that allows you to change a files crc? https://www.nayuki.io/page/forcing-a-files-crc-to-any-value

EDIT 6 - Finally was able to extract the damaged file and got most of my stash back…phewwwww - all my legendaries are back!!!

If anyone needs help getting a damaged backup zip back use Winzip as it will extract parts of the damaged file it could read and save it to a spot you specify but you will lose something. But getting most back is better than nothing at all. 7-zip and winrar wouldnt do it.

Hi. Just wondering if this means that I can’t use Cloud saving in conjunction with this mod, or is that just during installation? Cos I constantly switch between laptop and PC and so I find it useful. Thanks. Looks like a great mod.

Aye, not at all compatible with cloud saving.
It’s just too unreliable.

It works with cloud saving on v1.1 with experimental features, but it’s not quite “safe”, experimental features may result in item loss.

Experimental features may or may not be developed further to make them stable enough for the average joe.

So…technoob here, and can’t see instructions on OP…I just open this up before opening GD? Or after? Or does it just open itself when I access my shared stash in-game? I could obviously try all options, but, being aforementioned technoob, I fear I may just ‘break’ my items 8)

Yes, open GDIA first, it’ll parse the database which will take a few minutes then it’ll open. Then open the game and you’re good to go.

Winrar can do it if you select “keep broken files”.
But I’d highly recommend keeping more than one backup.
By default IA should be storing one backup for each weekday, if you have backups enabled.

I’ll hopefully get online backups merged into the v1.0 branch sometime soon.
Though realistically I expect I’ll be doing minimal IA support until April.

Thanks Medea. A problem arose when I did that. Wondering if it’s normal, and what fix is? Only after installing IA, GD refused to start up properly. Just big black screen. Tried Alt-tab and Windows+D but nothing. Eventually I got up Task Manager and managed to click on GD in taskbar to make it come up with Crate Loading screen. That seems to happen every time I boot it up now…8(

It happens when you start the game with IA running?
Or when you start it regardless of whetever IA is running?

If it only happens with IA running, something odd is definitely going on.
IA does inject code into GD, but I’ve only ever heard of this issue occurring when joining a multiplayer game (and this issue has since been fixed)

If it happens regardless, then it’s a different issue, as IA isn’t capable of injecting code into GD unless IA is running.

So I need to do a restore since about a hundred items disappeared for me. I tried reloading the grimarillion db as it says in help file, but that didn’t change anything.

When I look at my restore file db its about 200kbs where as the db i’d be replacing is 200MB - should I really replace?

Just concerned I’m doing something wrong.

199.8mb are just item data it copies from the game/mods/etc.
The other 0.2mb are you actual items

But before that, send your item file to [email protected] and list some items that has disappeared and I’ll see whats what =)

Also any log files with WARN, ERROR or FATAL entries are interesting.

Most likely a flag (hardcore vs softcore, mod name etc) has gotten mixed up, or it’s failing to display unidentified items.

Hey!

I tried loading the backup file again and it worked fine this time, not sure why it didn’t earlier.

Interestingly I’m still getting this issue where my entire stash for all grimarillion characters gets wiped out to starting point of no content and only 2 tabs. Not really sure why this keeps happening…

So Zantai and Chthon both recommend I completely delete/uninstall everything having to do with my GD installation and start from scratch - including getting rid of all my characters to try and fix the stash bug I have :frowning:

Does the item assistant let me store items w/ components socketed into them? Because if I have to start fresh, I’d like to rebuild some of the higher level guys I have with the same gear. Is it always a true 1 to 1 transfer meaning the augments and component add ons will stick with it? Or only the raw item data? I didn’t want to try and test it without knowing.

Thanks!

IA will happily store any items with components, but it cannot handle augments as they cannot be stored in stash.

But if you remove the augments IA will handle them, it stores all pertinent item data, and in some cases more that needed =)
It may be a bit of a pain to restore large stacks of components though, since IA doesn’t stack them when transferring them back.

A fix is coming for that sometime in the future.

Hmm, at the risk of sounding stupid how do I remove the augment? Do I go to the apprentice the same as removing a component? Do you know if it strips off both the augment and the component? Or is it less complex and like I said, I’m just being stupid

The same guy that removes components.
It will remove only the augment, the component remains =)

The available options are:
*) Return only component (destroying the item)
*) Return only the item (destroying the component)
*) Return the item and component (stripping only the augment)

Great thank you!
