This happens to me regularly. I get the notification that a trader has arrived. I see that he buys something I have a huge surplus of and want to get rid of (ie, 500 herbs). I click to transfer those goods to the trading centre. While logistics happens, I move on with my life and deal with something else happening in the town. By the time I remember to actually sell the goods, the trader has already left.
I can see a few solution:
(1) A notification for when a trader is about to leave, ~7 days before or so. (Probably easy to implement but more notifications could be annoying)
(2) A single transfer-and-then-sell button. It wouldnât skip the logistical step, just automatically sell the resources to the trader once theyâve been moved from the warehouse. (Probably harder to implement, but would be the most convenient option).
(3) I could be less of an idiot and keep my short term memory for 5min at a time. (Borderline impossible to implement)
You can store your excess resources you wish to sell beforehand, up to a limit of 500. I get a bunch of stuff in during winter. That way when a trader comes who happens to be buying for an acceptable price, you can just sell it then and there.
This also prevents those goods from spoiling.
Yeah, I could do that, but I donât know in advance how much stuff Iâll want to sell. It might be years until the right trader arrives. If the option was âSend the surplus over X amountâ to the trade centre rather than âHave Y in the trade centre at all costâ it might be more helpful.
As for things not spoiling inside the trade centre, Iâm not to keen to use that kind of exploit (if itâs not downright a bug).
You send over your excess; the stuff you wonât be using.
Say Herbs; your Forager picks a certain amount in a year, and then you see how many more than that you have in storage. Keep a bit more than the difference between those amounts, then send the rest to the Trading Post each winter.
Or Clothes, which you usually have to create in excess to use up your Flax harvests, are in almost constant production, so you can pretty much send all you have in Winter in lower pops (or keep 5-20 as population increases), and further production after that point will include what your villagers use when itâs time to replace their Clothes.
Thatâs a solution that appears even worse than the problem in the OP lol. The quality of life improvement Iâd like is precisely to not have to remember to shuffle items around all the time.
It is many things, resource management is only one of them. Anyway, resource management =/= manually moving resources from one building to another. Which, thankfully, is automated in literally every other instance it happens in the game.
Perhaps you donât mind having to click once to move goods, waiting a while, and then clicking again to sell it. I prefer not having to mindlessly click again to confirm a decision Iâve already taken, but if you like doing it, fine. The option to combine it into 1 click wonât take that away from you. And it shouldnât require a huge stretch of the imagination to see why some players might prefer that.
Thatâs the thing, I donât. As I explained, I have it all ready for when a trader comes in the trading post, with nothing being wasted via spoiling, and limited storage not being filled up by things that donât have to be there.
Very much agree! I donât know how many times Iâve done the same thing: transferred some goods over to the trader, then moved on to deal with something else while waiting for it to get moved, and then I completely forget about it until I see the trader leaving and I was a couple seconds too late!
As Whiley said, yes, you can manage the resource transfers in advance, which I usually try to do, but there are still plenty of times that I forget to do so, and then end up losing out on a big sale that I otherwise wouldnât have if there was just a quick âtrader leavingâ notification.
I think the best solution would just be to have a quick notification pop up letting the player know that a trader is about to leave within 10 days or so. Sure, an option to âauto sell items once stockedâ would be awesome, but Iâm sure that would be a lot more difficult to implementâŠ
But you are still clicking twice with a wait in-between to implement the single decision of âI want to sell X amount of Yâ. My clicks are when the trader arrives, and once the goods have been transferred. Your clicks are whenever you review your annual production surplus, and once the trader arrives. Maybe itâs more efficient economic management your way by exploiting how the trade centre is a massive warehouse with a small footprint that prevents spoilage. But economic efficiency is not the point of this thread.
Itâs simply that having to click twice (with a long wait in-between) is a slight annoyance, and one that is very prone to absent mindedness.
While not the best solution, what I do is set maximum storage limits on all my items for how much Iâll actually need. I have storage buildings next to the trading post specifically for holding goods to trade. This way when I want to sell, the logistics is much faster to move the goods next door.
Though I do wish a system like the game Foundation was present, where you can choose to just keep X amount and automatically sell anything over (maybe not auto sell in this game, but automatically move to trading post).
