Tree farming

Hi,

I’m really no expert at this, but I’ve noticed that I’m always short on trees even if I put them as a priority and remove stones etc as priorities. Is this how it’s supposed to be, or is it a bug? If it’s a feature that’s meant to be in the game, I will gladly remove it as a “con” listed in my otherwise positive review. Or maybe I just haven’t grasped how to collect it properly? It’s a possibility as well, even though I think I’ve tried enough ways.

Kind regards,

Sanity

The workers first take care of the buildings and roads to be built. When all this is over, then they will cut down the trees.

Would have to see your exact scenario, but if trees are marked for harvest (note: not clearing), and you have laborers available, they should get around to cutting them down.

Ah. this is what I must be doing wrong. Thank you so much!

Another gamer solved the issue for me. It keeps me wondering though, wouldn’t it be logical for the workers to cut down / gather what they need first, then build houses, buildings etc? Just food for thought. I’m building stuff all the time, I’m always excited when I can put out new buildings.

There are two ways to remove obstacles. When you designate a building on top of a tree, it triggers the “clear” action, which you can also use with the C key or icon at the bottom right. This has a higher precedent than the harvest option. With harvest, items will be cut when they are needed or when the labor workers have no other work to do. This allows existing trees to keep growing and spreading. Also, when builders do not have sufficient wood and cannot proceed as a builder, they are automatically converted to the labor force to increase the odds of gathering the necessary materials. Needs do not necessarily dictate the order of what gets harvested.

Oh? What’e the different between harvest and clearing? I thought clearing was just a way to mark several at a time for harvesting

Harvesting means you want what it’s producing (berries, wood, etc.). In the case of trees and stone, this eventually removes them from the map.

Clearing means you want it gone from the map (regardless of what it is) and you’re forfeiting any resources it may produce.

Really? Oh no wonder I’ve been low on logs :frowning:

If you clear decorative trees you will get the wood resources from cutting them down. This is how I manage my tree farms.

Clearing happens when you want to place a building on the tree or rock as well, and either way you still get the resources for them. For trees and rocks, the primary difference is the timing. Clearing just puts more of a rush on them where as Harvesting is done when time permits so they have more time to grow and spread (for trees).
