It would be good if trees had a desirable impact on housing areas, the pool of desirable items is pretty small and makes it difficult to build a desirable looking city. Roads lined with trees, or parks flanked by trees, would give the game more visual impact.

Welcome to the forum. 
Unfortunately, every item that adds desirability also adds to the calculations your computer has to make and that can lead to lag in the game. So I doubt that would be something Crate would change. Nothing to stop you planting trees to beautify your town.
