By the same flawed logic, Silk Swatch is superior than every other component in shoulders “unless you don’t need pierce/bleed resist”
The AoM components are a huge leap forwards and there’s no denying that. Heck, Ugdenbog Leather alone is pretty incredible and has helped a number of my builds that would otherwise be struggling hard to hit the bleed res cap without sacrificing something important. Trying to deny that, and that there’s still a huge over-reliance on Ugdenbloom even with this upcoming change, is shortsighted at best.
I have 5 Character that I did look over their Component
Shield Character easily hit 100 Bloom cause of how Runebound Topaz is just too good to pass. This translate to 2 Rare and between 5 and 7 Common (average at 6)
Other are normally 2 Rare and 3-5 Common (Average at 4)
This translate to In average 6 or 8 "Bloom related Component* per character which translate in 24 to 32 Partial Component
That switch of dropping one per partial will save each character 25-30 Ugdenbloom every 4th character become “free” comparing to 1.0.3.0 which is a MASSIVE improvement. I can easily live with that one (and that was the expected change I had for 1.0.3.0 when it was mentionned cost would be lowered)
I don’t mind farming bosses for gear, but this is farming areas for stumps and hopefully some heroes.
If we had a guaranteed stump boss that dropped a handful of blooms per kill, that would be a different story and well worth farming. For me, it’s so mindlessly boring that I found myself not wanting to play Grim Dawn simply because the amount of Ugdenblooms I needed would require hours of runs for those stupid flowers.
Crate did a fantastic job up until this point. If they made AoM with everything the way it is now except new recipes didn’t call for Ugdenblooms/Spirits/Mutagens/Missives, then it would be perfect. As it stands now, once someone has completed their character but are only lacking some components to get their resists in the right place, it’s just hours upon hours of mindless grinding which isn’t fun at all. Hours of grinding bosses/heroes/nemesis is a lot more enjoyable because even if you don’t get the gear you need, you’ll still get plenty of gear regardless. Not to mention fighting bosses and heroes keeps the game interesting rather than just uncovering the map hoping to find a stump to loot.
The only way I can think of to correct this issue would be to allow us to find the new materials outside of the expansion. As in, if someone has Ashes of Malmouth expansion, add Aetherial Missive/Mutagens to Aetherial bosses outside of the expansion area. Add Ugdenblooms to beast enemy item pools. Give us a better chance of finding these as we work our way up to the expansion so we aren’t locked in the last area just running the same areas over and over again hoping to find a few extra materials.
Fundamentally, the issue is that the most efficient way to acquire Ugdenbloom is with “flower runs”, which gets mind-numbing pretty quickly. I’ve seen the maps people made.
This is mostly due to all other sources of Ugdenbloom being…not as efficient. Swamp Golems can actually drop it, but it’s too rare. Living Plants can’t drop it at all (except for Sylvarria), which they should.
That’s being addressed. In addition, Sylvarria and Bargoll will have a chance to drop up to 2.
Let´s rename them to Grimbloom and have them drop from sources in other areas too, not just AoM. Seriously though, imo having to farm in the Bog gets tedious fast, not the farming as such. It´s our endgame after all.
Cool, thanks. Honestly, farming UglyBloom was not such a pain for me because its farm routes coincided with Kuba or poor ravager spawns. But who don’t have or try to avoid these nemesis, farming blooms can be not so pleasant.
Whenever I go hunting for Cubacabra (and usually I check all of Gloomwald and Ugdenbog even if I find him/them), I can collect up to 7-10 Ugdenbloom. To me that seems like enough material, and I am not even doing this as grinding. Ugdenbloom in general is more comparable to the Chtonic Seal of Binding as in that it can be dropped by non-hero monsters and you can accumulate much more of it than say, Tainted Brain Matter.
And as far as I can see, it is only needed to craft the above level 94 components. Meaning by the time you get there to use those, you will have completed the game three times.
And you will have about 20 (7 per run) which is enough at this point of time for ONE Rare Component.
You will be using between 6 and 10 Rare or Uncommon Component PER character.
I did use 100 Ugdenbloom to cover the first (and at this time) only character I have set with perfect end game gear. This would have taken me FIVE character just to get them without specific farming. (So 4 that I would have needed to update)
Same, the presence of Kubacabra makes the gloom farm less grinding. But not everyone likes or can deal with Kuba, so the farming process can be really boring and troublesome. And components (which already require a lot of blooms) are not the only craftables that requires this mat. There are other items that require it (for example the conduits, and you need a lot of blooms and RNGod prayers for that specific affix).
