Ultimate Warder Tank for MP Exclusive

Greetings fellow GD-enthusiasts!

I’m playing my second run since a couple years ago, and the goal this time is to be able to create a solid tank build I can use in an MP-setting.

I’m playing with three friends, two of which are cold and aether/lightning DPS respectively, and the last being a fire/vitality DPS/secondary tank.

My role is, as stated, to be a tank. Preferably an all-rounder, or as well as this is possible. I also wanted to be able to buff myself and teammates, and have the maximum amount of survivability (foregoing all damage in the process, mostly), and relieving my teammates of damage so that they can focus on DPS.

My choice was to create a warder, maxing out both Field Command and Mogdrogen’s Pact for the buffs (which stack pretty well on the entire team, it seems), and maxing out war cry for the taunt. I also decided to build Briarthorn to a degree, to further discourage monsters from attacking the other three players.

Here’s the planned build: grimtools[.]com/calc/r2BkgMDV
(remove the brackets)

You’ll notice there’s no gear. That’s because I really don’t know what I should go for. I’m currently level 54, and focusing primarily on building resistances and HP-regen.

I’m fairly new to GD, so I’m looking for some feedback from fellow players here on the forums (most of you likely have a lot more experience and skill than I do in creating versatile and functional builds). I tried looking for a while, but it seems most builds are oriented around solo-play, and even tanky builds are sort of tank/dps. I’m actually interested in just… being a fortress :stuck_out_tongue:

Some key points I’m interested in:

  • What items should I be looking for?
  • Comments on build synergy
  • Devotions (I’m really lost here, but I’ve given it my best shot)

So far, I feel this build is promising, as nothing is really able to make a dent (except aether clouds, which force me to move periodically :frowning: ). But we’ve only been playing on veteran so far, so this may not be a great indicator.

Looking forward to feedback and critiques! Thanks guys

I was in a similar group in my first run through GD.

My Warder was built around sword and board (Menhir’s Bulwark), Devouring Swarm, Wendigo Totem, and vitality damage. At around 50 I was using the Death Omen as my weapon. All of my devotions were centered around toughness, ADCtH and Vitality damage/decay. The Wendigo and Ulcama’s Scales worked well.

I was virtually unkillable and the combination of Warcry and Devouring Swarm’s DOT stuck everything to me quite nicely. It worked great all the way through Ultimate, but fell apart in Challenger Crucible and is far less invulnerable in AoM.

Good luck!
