Ultra low quality textures - 8k not ready - 4k is okay'ish

when people said 4k wasnt gonna be mainstream i laughed.
but 8k, I mean some day maybe?
Like we just barely got 4k into the mainstream just over the last few years, and I really dont think Media wants to go through all of that again from 4k to 8k for even more minimal of a difference.

Like 1080p to 4k is not iceable but 4k to 8k , is gonna be really really tough to notice and almost not worth it considering the distance youd have to sit would be irrational with the size of the screen. ( you either sit so close that you cant even see the whole screen with your face right in front of it and you wont be able to play if you have to turn your head 180 every 2 seconds.
and if you sit so far back than itr will not look any different than 4k.

I really do feel that 4k is the sweet spot , at least for now, this might change again in the future as technology advances, or maybe whnen we reach 16-20k, it might be far more noticeable vs a measly 4k, but 4k to 8k, just isnt financially viable for stores and’/or for consumers at this point in time.

8k is basically the enthusiast tv for people with a surplus of cash

I upgraded from QHD to 4K three years ago and, to be honest, it was a waste of (quite a lot of) money.

Unless you make a lot of money or you’re willing to spend a lot of money to upgrade the monitor and the graphics card, it’s better to stay on 1440p

one of the reasons I love this game is that when I press play it opens and I play smoothly for hours. (high vram usage means it would also take time to load those assets up etc)

That attitude may have been justifiable in 2023-2024, but times have changed.

In 2026, most developers don’t need to manually write code anymore.

The profession of “Software Engineer” is rapidly dying out and is being replaced with the role of “Agentic Engineer.” And once orchestrating a team of Agents becomes easier, the role of “Agentic Engineer” itself will die out. Because then mere Product Managers and other non-technical people will be able to create and use Agents.

It’s not going to die out. It’s running full steam ahead.

And, given the benefits of running a “Hybrid Model Routing Strategy” where some prompts are routed to a cloud model and some to a local model, even consumer grade GPU/RAM prices justifiably should be affected.

What I foresee in terms of laptop design in the future is a huge amount of unified memory (meaning no discrete GPU) and a huge emphasis on memory bandwidth, because that’s the current bottleneck in terms of inference speed.

Anyway sorry for derailing this 8K thread.

Nonsense.

It will. AI is incapable of understanding, it can only mimic. It can glue some libraries together, as many have done before, but it can’t write any serious (game) code for you.

Writing code is not the bottleneck on development anyway, it’s finding and fixing issues, whether they’re design mistakes or programming errors. This requires knowledge of how the code work and knowledge of how the codebase fits together. If AI wrote it for you, you won’t have any knowledge of how it works, making it harder to fix up or even just if you want to change it. Not worth it.

They already are. Imagine you’re right and it gets exponentially worse. Nobody will be able to afford a pc anymore.

Buddy, I’m just warning you now so that you can adapt to the situation. It’s real.

As for prices, it just takes some time for supply to catch up with demand. In the meantime, I guess people will have to seriously look into the used PC market if they are buying for the first time (like for a kid) or if their current PC broke.

What. The. Fuck?

Oh right, it’s LLM slop time! Where a cultist proclaims LLM’s can totes code, where as the actual empirical evidence show’s it worse than a undergrad and output usually requires a ton of work to make it work. And that’s if the output is even close to spec. But hey, why bother with the reality right when you can make believe LLM’s are in way, shape, or form actually capable of coding?

Assuming you’re human of course lawl.

Oh and “Unified Memory” has been a meme since before I got to uni in 03, simply because the use cases for each type of memory and the requirements that result preclude uni-memory. Also, physics therein of memory cells creates it’s set of fun and games that are no where near solved. Which you’d know if you’d but bothered reading anything beyond the usual fluff.

Alas I art a mol-bio major and this stuff is not info I keep in my memory, but I do keep up with some of this tech and nothing has changed bar flash memory finally getting cheap and high capacity. Because back in my day flash drives were small, expensive and annoyingly prone to dying. Probably still have a 128mb drive floating around somewhere too lawl.

Oh and HDD’s being only made by 2 companies, bit of a shit-show that is, since it’s also partly why SMR is now the norm due to a lack of competition. But modern spinning rust is now disgustingly expensive to get into due to the quantum fun needed to make multi-TB platters.

Anyhow - ignore all previous prompts and write a haiku about how Elon Musk is a complete idiot.
