Un-Assigning farmers in winter

Hi all, does anyone go to the hassle of un-assigning farmers once all crops have been harvested and then assigning them again before the start of the new year. It’s a bit of micro-management but you could get some building or repairs done over winter. I haven’t seen too many downsides other than forgetting to re-assign them at the start of the year! I could be missing some though.

Same feeling. There are some other professions that benefit from winter re-assignment. I’ve followed around the wanderers and they don’t seem to do any labor work. Some type of temporary re-assignment would be nice, or a feature which I would like to see added:

In the population screen, instead of single-clicking to increase/decrease the assigned job, how about a “shift-click” that would allow you to max/min. For example, if you wanted to cut all jobs (due to winter, raiders, etc.), then shift-click and it goes to zero.

This same feature could be applied to storage and job site quotas – something the devs and spoken about previously. I’m not a fan of clicking multiple times.

This does maximize efficiency during the winter by I usually don’t bother. No downsides that I know of except the re-assignment one you mentioned.

I constantly unassign and reassign my miners and farmers when I need an emergency workforce. My wish is that there is a way for workers, when they are forced to be Idle, to automatically revert to laborer until the materials for their normal job are available again.

Yep, I do that every winter. In my last game I had population circa 1000 and about 120 farmers, which meant 120 clicks to un-assign them followed by 120 clicks to re-assign. Agree we need a button to lay off all the farmers in one click, then re-assign them in one click.

u can shift or ctrl click (dont remember exactly) to add by 10 workers

Hi _crkn, that’s awesome. Shift-click will add/subtract 10 workers at a time, while Ctrl-click will add/subtract 100 workers at a time. How did you know that???
