Not sure what is the issue here, I have enough labors, builders and tools, yet they just wander around and do slight work each season, 2 years now and just 5% of the work is done.
Labourers won’t be doing that work, your farmers will. Labourers only clear things like trees, stones, etc, from a crop field. After that’s done it’s down to the farmers to prepare it for planting.
50 farmers, wow. How spread out are your farms?

yes i am facing this issue right now with crop fields. 23 years and the field (max size)
is still not complete.
I have 118 workers (82 turns white so PLENTY) 41 builders and the 5 farmers and priority on.
I have NOTHING being built (I’m maxed out nothing left to build or upgrade) so all those
peeps are free to help the 5 farmers till the field (plus the 76 other farmers could help but they
never do)
It is interesting because I only started making new crop fields because I wanted to tighten up
the layout. The first fields were too close to town center so I’m moving them to just outside
my walls and moving manors to where they used to be etc… This allows me to delete a theater.
Get towers closer in.
Basically I’m now making a city that looks like the opening splash screen when you first run the
game lol
I have 2 12x12 for flax (Lenin cloth), and 4 12x12 for wheat (beer + bread), and 2 7x7 to support my barns (wheat + roots) and all provide beans between crops
Since it is 7x7 field, the game will automatically assign 5 farmers to it. So they should be working from the beginning of the year until winter. What I think happened is, these 5 farmers were working/helping on other fields even though my field was prioritize.
After a year, I found more than 30 farmers working on this field and finished it in no time, I guess there were not much work to do on the other fields. I am still trying to understand the mechanics behind this.
Well, if there were things like trees, stones, etc, in the new field labourers will need to deal with those first so yes, your farmers would be working on other fields if that was the case. Only when the labourers have cleared the field will the farmers start their work on it.
nope nothing in the field. Even if there were it would take only a few months to clear with 118 workers being free and nothing being built. 41 years had passed and the field was still not tilled lol So I gave
up on field and deleted it and started a new one and they finished it in 1 year exact same spot.
Total bug there.
Now I did watch the last few years with F3 to see what the farmers were doing. When a farmer did show up it was just 1 and it would say “Tilling” but the farmer would do that for only a few seconds
when it would say something like “Idling nothing to do wandering” then the farmer would just leave the field and go work on the other fields.
Now did I just let 41 years go by before I could work on my layout? Nope I started 5 other fields
waiting for that one and they all finished in 1 year. In fact at times there were like 20 farmers tilling the new fields at the same time. Taking the 6000 down to 3000 in just seconds.
For some reason that 1 field just was ignored basically.
My 12*12 farm, took 5~6 years to build, seems like the same issue.
