[v1.0.0.4] Tri-element Witch Hunter - RIP Static Strike. 10sec sharzul, 8s fabius etc

its funny you mention this because towards the end i start pondering also. however, my initial reasons were this:

-BM style build is based on flat dmg bonuses to be amplifed by procs/execution/ss. blood of dreeg gives 90+ acid flat dmg when at 26/16. along with some flat chaos dmgs, while not the focus still helps abit. i initially planned to shoot for 26/16 blood of dreeg with madqueen claw x2, but then found that i lacked attackspeed by using madqueen claw x 2 + viperfang grips. after some testing, the dmg was higher just by sticking with deathmark 4pc for the attack speed / +skill.

-its not just 12% phys resist its also 12% dmg absorb. in the case of savagery, u get 8% from might of the bear , together 20% base, along with items u easily get over 40, which is almost like taking away half of a bosses dmg. phsyical resist is on increasing returns, the more you already have, the more every % helps. but at the same time is difficult to stack just from gear, so this way you can stack it quite a high and achieve a very strong effect

-the other focus was on taking NHH to 18/8 which adds alot of flat psn/acid dmg to the fast hitting procs , while this is doable on a normal BM, you get alot of +% psn/acid dmgs from occultist.

in regards to taking only a few skills on support trees, if your 1st tree uses alot of points you don’t have much left to max alot of skills in ur support tree anyway. so really a few super strong skills are enough reason. the best example of this is shaman. wendigo + stormcallers pact + heart of the wild. these 3 alone are enough reason for an DW elementalist to take shaman tree.

-resist debuffing is overall less important since Hot fix 2, but prior to that CoF truly is THAT powerful. and almost reason alone to take occultist. it wasn’t about the numbers, u can get 30ish from things like arcane bomb too, but most sources of -resist need time to apply or are single target. CoF instantly blankets the whole screen and can also proc additioanl -resist like arcane bomb

Soldier tree is very OP don’t get me wrong. probably the single most op support tree in hot fix 2. reason being it offers everything. for other trees, if i wanted HP, i sacrfice OA, if i wanted %dmg, i sacrfice DA, i want -resist, i sacrifice HP , etc etc. but soldier is such well rounded powerful that BM’s get pretty much everything which is the reason that are strong.

believe me soldier doesn’t need to be buffed. ok maybe warcry does. but otherwise no.

I think the primary reason jajaja didn’t go soldier is because he doesn’t want to build the typical blademaster, he has avoided it like the plague lol. He just wants to own it up like a blademaster without actually being a blademaster. I’m sure part of the fun for him is theorycrafting something new that isn’t already played by everyone.

But isn’t it a good thing that both ways of building works well? Both setups are relatively equal. I don’t think soldier needs to be buffed, maybe adjustments to cadence and warcry so it’s more attractive/viable. I don’t think soldier should be nerfed either, please don’t nerf soldier lol.

Soldier tree on its own is not very OP by any means. Defensively it is great, offensively it is just good at best. It has no -resists which is a big deal even after the changes. Alot of the power of BMs comes from NB + gear. Even then, the soldier tree is good for specific builds, not just anything. Try a 2h ranged ranged Cadence build and then tell me how OP soldier is.

2h cadence im doing this very exact thing right now, will see how it goes

Hmm makes sense.

Is damage absorption really that good? I don’t see a lot of players playing with Primal Bond for example.

I disagree with your comments on Soldier though - I mean yeah sure it does give you all those bonuses, but you have to invest so much mastery to get that or you have to invest in multiple skills. I can go Occultist and get CoF and call it a day, and dump all my other points in the other mastery. If I wanted to go Soldier for OA I’d have to go till Field Command or Oleron’s, and for that I need to dump a lot of Mastery.

Occultist as a support mastery offers massive support benefits very early in the tree i.e CoF, Solael’s, Vulnerability etc. The phys resist and heal come later but that’s only if you really have the points to invest like you have. Posession, well that really depends on damage absorption being really as good as you say it is.

Compared to Soldier I have to spend more points to get to the support traits because I get attack replacers/enhancers in the beginning, and I only get to support much later.

Honestly I wish you the best of luck!

I’m working on a demo 2h cadence build with Valdun’s on it, so far up to 76 somewhere in Ultimate. It’s not horrible, but nowhere near what other builds can do. Maybe you can come up with better devotion and skill selection. Not too optimistic on it though.

Great build again congrats!

I must say though it’s a bit depressing sometimes to see just how easily dual wielding destroys everything (like GC’s blademanster also).

Also manticore on blade spirit is great. I’ve also been using that for a more unusual witch hunter. I’ve been avoiding dual wielding ever since i’ve started to play this game for some reason.

my 2h gun “cadence” build is doing pretty ok. i kill sharzul in about 20secs i think which is faster than my sabo LOL. trash die pretty quickly, depends a bit on positioning. my devotion skills are kinda low still. should go faster once they are maxed.

i think if i can face tank bosses i’d kill them alot faster, gonna try maxing fumble to see if i can. i got close to 12k hp but not enough heals to facetank things like sharzul atm.

reason for blades of wrath on blade spirit is when the spirit is dropped right ontop of a boss, many projectiles will shotgun the boss for alot of dps.

reason for manticore on SS is u SS to initaite, which will almost always proc it right away and get the debuffs on asap instead in the middle or end the fight. this matters when fights last so short

There are other builds that can also kill as fast as blademaster, it’s not like dual wielding is the only way to smash stuff.

lightning savagery can kill “almost” as fast, i think probably 40s dummy.

Thank you for the response. So you would say blades of wrath helps you more against bosses than manticore? Or does manticore proc often enough with SS when you need it against single targets?

SS counts as 2 hits so its around 30% per cast for manticore on a single target.
with belgothian refresh, u get 2 casts instnatly = 4x chance to proc pretty much right away. so usually not an issue for single target.

for aoe its a sure proc as every mob getting hit by nightfall counts as a hit

Actually with the scaling proc chance on cooldown skills manticore should have near 100% chance to trigger…

Makes sense. Thank you.

Are devotion procs counted as WPS? If that were not the case then manticore will never have a 100% chance to trigger.

No.

/10chars

Actually I’m wrong. I misread the statement. Scaling proc chance will allow devotion procs to proc more often a la Doom Bolt.

On the other hand there’s CoF which counts as per target(or per tick, why is there a DoT mechanic on a curse) allowing stuff like Arcane Bomb to proc on a near 100% probability, which is retarded.

As a support tree cof needs close to 20 points on one support skill it should be op. On otherhand we have op soldier stuff like scars of battle field of command etc that does alot with just a few pts

The devotion setup is totally straight forward or it involves puting points and removing to get other devotions? Because I’m lost without an step per step devotion guide most of the time :frowning:

If it’s hard to achieve will you post a step by step pretty plis? thanks in advance!

devotions should be pretty straight forward
