When highlighting, for example, a bunch of roads I’ve placed down, then clicking clear, nothing happens. All of the roads are outlined in red; the button to clear appears, but clicking it does not clear anything, and the button disappears while the roads remain outlined.
I have tested this with a patch of trees and a separate patch of stones; it does the same as above. I even tried only selecting one of each (road, tree, stone) separately with the same results.
Clear appears to be broken.
Update: I have started multiple new games with different seeds under the default starting conditions, and the problem persists across all of them.
Side note: I play with no mods.
Hi IsaBeeNee,
I can’t seem to repro this. My guess is that maybe you are hitting some sort of error when you click the button, causing the clear function to be aborted, hence the objects remaining selected, etc.
Does the problem happen with the mono version of the game?
I just tried it, and it’s still occurring. I had validated my game files a few hours ago, but to no avail. I didn’t actually know I could launch in mono at the time, though, so I am going to re-validate and try to launch in mono again. I will update if it works or not.
Update: still no luck.
I re-validated my game files, and this time, 3 files failed (this did not occur during the earlier validation). However, I still cannot clear anything. I tried launching mono first, then normal. Neither had any change. I did it again, and this time all game files were verified. Re-launched the game in both modes, but still no change.
I could try to uninstall and reinstall, if I won’t lose my save? (Other than this problem, there is nothing wrong with the save!)
What’s mono? When I start I just click on the green PLAY button.
If you go to Steam and click on the gear icon → properties → general → selected launch option, you’ll find the option to launch in mono (I’m not 100% sure what mono is, but I think it is something to do with mods).
I’ve discovered that I have the ability to clear walls/fences, but none of the other clear options. Perplexing.
All the other types (Trees, Stones, Bushes, Berries, Buildings) don’t immediately clear. Villagers have to path over and clear them. Is that maybe what you’re seeing?
Possibly. I let the game run in 3x for a few minutes with 20 extra laborers without anything else selected for harvest or clear, but maybe I didn’t wait long enough. I’ll have to check when I can play later. I still have the issue with roads, though.
So… my game went black and froze when I tried to load the save. I had to use Task Manager to quit it. I decided to uninstall/reinstall (I deleted all game files, save files, and user data from the Steam game folder too).
I started a new save, and I can clear roads that are built now, which is what I was originally trying to do (I still can’t clear those that have not been built yet, but I don’t know if that was ever even possible to begin with).
My best guess is that my game files had either become corrupted or some were missing (?). I don’t know, but I’m comfortable saying that the problem was system-specific to my pc and is resolved!

Great news! I’m glad to hear you’re up and running again.
I’m pretty sure clearing not-yet-built roads used to be a thing pre v1.1 - I spend a lot of time laying out roads while the game is paused, and previously could use the clear function to erase a bunch of not-yet-built roads all at once when I needed to shift something in my road design. But I’m finding the same thing as @IsaBeeNee said in their last post - the clear function only seems to work on fully constructed roads now. Definitely makes it a hassle now to clear unbuilt roads as I have to individually select each one to destroy it.
Nevermind on this, I got confused by the new “building management” tool! The clear button still works on not-yet-built roads, but the building managment tool only gives you the option to salvage fully constructed roads. I guess this makes sense as the clear tool wouldn’t give you back any stone if you destroyed a cobbled road, while the new tool does. Just a little confusing with the overlap.

I am having same issue, but still running v1.0 not 1.1. ( Just getting used to game and keeping things going with people, not ready for bears) Does the 1.1 update include bug fixes and other little things other than turning people into bears ?
Also, slightly off topic as not a bug, but connected to road clearing. Would love the ability to clear just 1 or 2 blocks of a finished road when you realize it went past where you intended, instead of having to salvage and re-lay the whole section.
