So, I’m relatively new to this game (about 2 months), but already have 4 characters at level 19.
Yesterday, I decided to start a new character and go up to the Veteran level.
I must say I’m disappointed.
I expected the play to be a lot harder (to kill enemies) and wasn’t disappointed there.
What didn’t seem to happen was faster leveling. I thought with the increased hardness level would come increased experience points. Even though I didn’t sit down and track all the exp numbers I got per kill, I know roughly how I play the game (replay certain areas once or twice to get more exp and drops), and I know what level I am when I get to those certain certain areas and when I finish them.
So, I was surprised when I got to level 6-7 at basically the same spot where I get to level 6-7 at the lower difficulty.
So, did I miss something? Or is it just harder, but doesn’t have the increased experience?
Veteran mode increases the challenge on Normal difficulty by making monsters stronger and tougher. You will also encounter an increased number of spawns, with a noticeable increase in the spawn rate of champion and hero monsters. With the increase in monster density, you will also notice an increase in the amount of loot that drops, making Veteran mode a rewarding experience for those that can survive its challenges.
So no more experience per enemy just more enemies that are tougher. Though I don’t think the increased number of mobs is very noticeable at very low levels.
No increased experience in general, however when you get further along you do find more hero’s, which in turn do give more exp than normal mobs. Same can be said for loot you find.
I normally just level in normal because i find it faster, then if need be switch to vet to farm a tad after i bet the story line.
There are more enemies (eventually when you run into heroes you will notice that you run into 2 or 3 or more of them at a time). No xp increase except passively due to more mobs. If you aren’t a map clearer you likely won’t notice the difference as much.
I can assure you that you do edge out more levels going vet. I’m usually level 8-9 by finishing the first quests, turning it in and talking to everyone in the prison.
I enjoy Normal being separate from Veteran simply so I can run through it quicker when releveling. With three difficulties? I’ve ZERO incentive to actually go for Veteran. The good gear drops in Elite, and by the time I rush through Normal into Elite, I’ve usually maxed my main skill, so the build’s actually starting to come together.
TLDR I see no point in ever using Veteran in its current state. And even if it did up XP and (good) loot like some people think it does, (ie by way more than it really does, and on purpose)…I’d still probably not use it.
More mobs/HEROES = more loot orbs = more chances at better loot
It does not in anyway affect how “good” the loot drops will be. As always, that lies in RNGesus’ hands.
Regardless, the mode was created back in the early days well before we had Elite and Ultimate and is for those who simply want a “bit” more challenge on Normal. Being a toggle one can simply, well, toggle it. As much as they wish. Play whichever mode floats your boat.
I know this. Sorry for not making that clearer. I said that because I’ve gotten into multiple discussions on Normal/Veteran, and it seems many people have the mistaken idea that you get better loot in Veteran. You don’t, but people seem to THINK that you get much better loot, for no apparent reason.
i always play Veteran and yes, it’s generally a walk in the park (except the beginning prior to 1.0.0.8) and while the loot is better than in Normal (due to more loot sources as powbam said), you don’t care because you still have close to no chances to find a legendary.
Elite and Ultimate are here if you want challenge so i don’t really see the point here, just rush the first mode and anjoy what follows
edit : i read too fast. you do level a little faster due to the mob density again but that may not be spectacular
I’ll just throw this out there but “in my experience” (alot of you know already I run lots of new toons) I actually frequently garner 2-3 (sometimes more) Legs in the mid-to-high 40’s near the end (around Ikon++) of Norm/Vet.
Not always but more often than not.
And then I get onto Elite and don’t see nary a Leg until the Warden or later
As mentioned earlier, its just harder and more boss mobs. I played through on vet a couple of times but now since I have about 20 alts I just blast through normal as slowing down the lvling process seems silly by this point.
