Virgin AssetManager
Glossary:
GD GrimDawn, AM AssetManager
In order to do anything resembling successful, like an xmax mod, you have to learn how to both start the AssetManager for the first time and how to grind into your mind, until you can no longer get sufficient sleep at night because the cyclical windings yet chainings but also mixings and interminglings of dbrs referencing dbrs within the game is mindboggling. When you start the program, hereafter referred to as AM because otherwise I am tempted to kill myself if I have to write AssetManger one more time. Notice, there are no links here, we just call it AM. The alternative is insulting. Is there an asshat race?
Anyway AM, this big nasty program that is required to do a lot of work, but mainly manages to fail miserably, but not because the code is wrong, there will always be a place where you made a mistake. It will often be the very place you were working when the mod broke. It will be there staring you in the face, you misread that all is good and then, blam! you never look back to that record…no…you soldier on through a reference dbr, or a dbr that references that initial record. The chain starts and branches and pretty soon you go up a reference level and you end up back where you started. Confused as fuck, thinking your brain has melted, you again dismiss the concept that the error could be in that very first record. You checked in the beginning remember? It has to be right. So then you start to close some windows to regain consciousnesses so to speak and you end up closing windows for 5 minutes before you arrive at the desktiop, you intended to leave at least one record open, right…to fix this blasted bug? Well, staring at your desktop, you cannot even remember the name of that record, or what your name is, and you go pass out for 4-5 hours dreaming of loops of references chaining left right and center yet still coming back into a twisted nest that makes your brain hurt cause you know there is a way to untangle it and plot it linearly on paper but you fail, because they keep connecting. So after that short sleep, when you have had the coffee and are in front of AM again, you see the bug. You fix it. You have learned something. And you are on your way to learning to learn how to AM and mod GD.
