I would love to see a grid that can be made visible on demand while building, including prior to placing down the village square. That way I can have a plan in place as to how many tiles away from a certain source (ie: rivers, lakes, sea…) to build my town square. It would also help in the hard to see areas where there are tall trees and you’re trying to count how far away from the road your building is being built.

Yes, that’d be helpful!
In the winter, it is easy to see the grid when buiding paths.
I’d like a grid-toggle key - not just while placing buildings - so that I can see at a glance what areas are likely to have too much slope to support more than a few buildings. I placed a market only to find later that it was on the edge of a slope so I could surround it with fewer shelters than intended.
I think it’s intended. To spice up the game. I happened to place the town hall next to a steep slope. I made do with that.
And don’t forget that you can move all the buildings. Except City Hall.
