Vitality Ritualist Exclusive Skill

Why would a Valguur’s vitality ritualist use Master of Death rather than Harbinger of Souls?

Does that build struggle to find OA and DA?

Cause regular skills without high %weapon damage don’t benefit from atk speed, rarely from cast speed and adcth
The only thing it gives u is % damage which is low

You never want to use Master of Death on non-pet build. The only exception is some weird Phyz build, when HoS lead to dps loss.

Dudewhat?

Master of Death is much stronger than Harbinger of Souls for most Necro builds, Vitality Ritualist included. % OA and flat DA are highly preferrable to speed stats that can’t be utilized, conversion that matters not, and a bit of % damage.

This. And the funny part is that ptiro used to use it but when it was nerfed to 9% OA at rank 12, he said it became terrible.

Because having the equivalent of 3 Sylvarria’s Essence and a lot of flat DA is terrible now. And Ritualist doesn’t have DA outside of Master of Death and Savagery, so a Ritualist caster is screwed when it comes to DA.

Making for a glassy build?

You’ll struggle for DA with caster Ritualist, yes. Even with Blood Boil, it’s always a good idea to get DA to a good number.

MoD lvl 12/12
9% OA - need a lot of variable to determine dps impact. With a generic Vitality build ending at 2900 OA and 60% Crit dmg you gain around 6% dps increase from it against Grav`thul.
Now a generic vitality build at 2500% Vitality dmg. 135% from HoS increase dps by ~ 3% . Cast/attack speed might look useless for some builds, but they decrease animation time and make casting stuff more fluid.
Flat vitality decay beat MoD dps-vise if you use anything with WD >100%, like boneharvest. Extra duration of decay push HoS even further .
Now lets compare defensive stats
Vitality resist - literally useless on vitality build.
75DA - equivalent to one item with Protection roll. Useless if you are in 2900DA hotspot, kinda usefull if you are close to 3500DA cap, but still not stellar.
HoS - 10% ADCTH. Equal to 2 jewelry slots or Ghoul+Revenant devotions. Huge impact on survivability for anyone that use anything with %WD. Provide increasing returns. =)

So beyond debuffs like blood boil, where does one make up DA?

Devotions, items, components.
https://www.grimtools.com/calc/O2GDD9XV this is your generic devotions map if you use a caster weapon/offhand.
These boots and pants drop a lot , they tend to be BiS for most characters.

Can confirm what Ptiro is saying that Harbinger of Souls is better in the end than Master of Death for a Vitality Ritualist Caster.

I have tested it a lot on my Bone Jovi build (here is the grimtools). And higher OA/DA numbers for Master of Death resulted in less damage and worse survivability in the end.

Yeah I dunno about you but I’ll take 200 OA over 1k Vit Decay that you can’t leech from.

Well, you say “you will take” but me and Ptiro have actually tested this shit thru and thru and made succesful vitality caster ritualist builds. Gotta look for DA eslewhere.

If you have high AS\CS you can use it over HoS,but overall is more useful for other damage sources if they don’t have exclusive skill. For Vitality HoS is great. In some earlier patches,I tried Dark One Cabalist and HoS was performing better for some reason than Possesion.

Keep in mind - OA don’t work if you don`t crit. =) %Vit dmg work all the time, that result in more consistent leeching. And extra ADCTH help a lot against LL resistant enemies.

It became less appealing when %OA bonus was reduced from 18% to 12% . Then MoD was further nerfed to 9% it became the worst exclusive skill in the game for non-pet character.
At the same time HoS was buffed with %ADCTH and became even more appealing.

Physique, gear, devotions.
