Weapon damage on skills / duration interaction

Just a quick question, if I have a skill that does X% weapon damage, and my attacks normally do Y duration damage, will the skill deal Y duration damage or Y*X% duration damage? If it is the latter, will my attacks override that duration damage or will it wait until the more powerful one is done?

From game guide:

As you discover new abilities, you will eventually stumble upon skills that deal % Weapon Damage. What this means is that the skill takes the damage and effects you would deal on a regular attack and multiplies it by the displayed %. This includes things such as life steal, bonus magical damage and chance on attack item skills.

Unlike debuff effects, DoTs stack from different sources and always do full damage. For example, if you apply Poison with your weapon, and then another Poison effect with a spell, both will deal full damage.

Well, now i have the question. Are WPS different sources? For example, if i apply DoT with Markovian’s Advantage and then with Zolhan’s Technique do they stack? Is it different skills or just weapon attacks?

They don’t stack they’re just weapon attacks

Actually they do stack:p. It’s why wps and dot’s work so well, like bleed tricksters. any different source of % weaon damage means the dot ON your weapon - or if you have on hand armor or devotions) will apply again

What

That is what I know. Perhaps I misunderstood. Lets take Bloodsong for example that has ~200 bleed on it. Every WPS should be a new “Source” for the bleed on bloodsong (or dot on unknown soldier, fox, Wolf). Same thing is you hit with Oleron blood ability while attacking. It would be another new source.

So it seems that even though WPS skills take some of their damage from the same base source (% weapon damage), it puts the skill’s label on it so each WPS counts as a different source as far as the game’s concerned? That’s pretty cool.

Bleed Tricksters work well because using Savagery they apply 150% of the flat bleeding and around 150%*300% with Execution, not because of WPS counting as a new source.

  1. Every different source’ Damage over time will stack with each other. Doing the same attack or skill repeatedly will only refresh the duration of that DoT as they do not stack. example: I do Cadence for 100 internal trauma for 3 seconds and then force wave for 150 for 3 seconds would gives a total of 250 internal trauma for 3 seconds or 750 over 3 seconds. If I did Cadence and then Cadence a second later the 3 seconds of internal trauma would refresh.

  2. Your DoTs are multiplied by the weapon damage on your skills. Let’s say you have force wave doing 150% weapon damage and through your passives and gear you have 100 bleed damage a second for 3 seconds. This will then be multiplied to make 150 bleed damage for 3 seconds. Now if you also have force wave’s internal trauma which also does bleed and internal trauma damage, that damage will then be added to the skill. It is separate from your weapon damage so it will only add what it states. To continue the example we’ve already got 150 bleed form passives and gear on forcewave’s base skill, now we also get 100 more bleed and 100 internal trauma for 3 seconds (internal trauma skill). totaling for 250 bleed and 100 internal trauma for 3 seconds or 750 bleed and 300 internal trauma over 3 seconds.

Hope this helped!

Sorry, I don’t understand, WPS are not new sources? Or they are new sources, but it doesn’t matter because Execution has 300% modifier?

Are shields counted as weapons for applying DoTs? Will i get 2x325% DoT with 16/16 Blitz?

kyleblake92 I think the question is, if you had 100 on hit bleed, would your standard attack (not cadence) and forcewave be considered two different sources? And would standard attack and cadence be two different sources?

At least half of my question has been answered in this thread, it’s good to know it gets multiplied by wps.

% Weapon damage is counted as same source of DoT. Cadence, Forcewave and weapon attack will not stack DoT. If skill has another source, for example, Internal Trauma for Forcewave, Fighting Form for Cadence, those sources will stack.
