What do you like (or don't) about UI in Grim Dawn?

Just curious.
May be there are some things that you want improved?

Just the fact that health and energy potions use slots in the skillbar. They should have their own separated icons.

2nd permanent skillbar and/or extra potion bar.
Yup. I am confident this isn´t the first time I wrote that here in the forums.
sigh

Maybe in GD 2.

They have their own hot keys so you can remove them from the skill bar… Default is e and r

You mean a 3rd skill bar? There’s already 2, push y to switch.

No shit.

I just don´t wanna switch all the time, especially while fighting.
A second permant bar isn´t too much to ask for.
Sure, I have learned to live with the current UI, but I sure as hell don´t think it´s pretty.

Yes, but I still want to see when the cooldown ends.

I think Grim Internals lets you do that.

It’s funny, I rather have to switch and use the same buttons to reactivate my buffs for like 2 boss (Loxmere and Gravathul). Purple elite enemies usually don’t have time to nullify.

I don’t want to have more or less 2- 5 new skills to assign to new buttons.
That’d be a bit much, imo.
If we were to do it the way that you want it it would mean that my top 3 builds would have with skills + potions + buff skills in between 13 and 15 buttons to be assign… 2 of them will have another skill with the added mobility skills in the next expansion. These numbers don’t consider the inventory + map + turning the camera buttons

I don’t like the fact that at higher levels the game can only be played by touch-typists.

I can’t type well and that means I am restricted to builds that use only a few buttons. There should be a macro system that allows us create spell combos - I know that autohotkey is a thing, but it would be annoying to use and I think that making it part of the game would be way cooler.

Like:

  • The art in the various menu windows and surrounding the action bar.
  • The uniqueness of the health/energy display.

Dislike:

  • How minimalist the enemy unit frames are. It’s a simple black rectangle.
  • Lack of health bars above enemies’ heads. Grim Internals has got this covered though.
  • Inconsistency with game notification text. Example: “Someone has been here recently.” in small tan font with the Skeleton Key door message in a larger white font. But perhaps I am remembering this wrong, I’m at work so I can’t verify this one.

New player perspective:

Like:

  • Inventory system with auto-sorting and auto-stacking mods

Dislike:

  • No transparent overlay map (in my opinion it’s a must in ARPG games)
  • When the stash is open, when I right click an item it swap the item with my current gear instead of going into the stash.

Here’s Medierra’s reasoning from many years ago against translucent maps.

http://www.grimdawn.com/forums/showthread.php?p=3892

To move gear into the stash hold down the left shift key and left click on the item.

Dislike:
Tiny world map window with no full screen option.
Only one loading screen picture with no variety.

Pretty much everything else. Overall I’m really pleased and if I had to praise one feature it would be the easy scalability of the UI. Inventory sort/auto-complete buttons are genius as well.

Loading screen will randomly cycle betwen the Occultist, Malmouth woman and FG man when FG is released.

i love the ui in alpha version and was hoping crate to put it in loyalist edition

What? This one?

http://www.grimdawn.com/forums/showthread.php?t=6032

No point in having separate UI’s. Loyalist pack only provides a few cosmetic things for your character, nothing else.

yes, it has one point : nostalgic feeling :D:D:D
well im not even a backer, but i feel the old ui is cool

it’s not separate but something like illusion , you get it from kory then replace it with the old one (is that even possible?)

i know , i purchase everything crate throw at me

There’s nothing in particular I dislike about the UI but I wouldn’t mind a slight makeover considering this might be the last expac.

Hoping for a mobile port soon. After Xbox and switch, having a Phone friendly UI is the proper way to go for the franchise;)
