There are plenty of skills/constellations that are just no brainers. If you are playing an Arcanist class, for example, you are obviously going to take Maivern’s because you like not being dead. That does not mean they are automatically over-powered, just practical in a wide variety of situations. Equally, there are many skills/constellations that you would not even consider outside a specific situation. You would not take Ulzuin’s Torch on your Starcaller Pact Druid They are not bad options, just very build specific!
Are there any skills or constellations that are just flat-out too good, or are always a must-have for the wrong reasons? Equally, are there any options so bad that you can barely imagine a situation where you would take them, or would only do so gruggingly?
Most things are pretty good, although I personally think Casadence needs some work on how it interacts with WPS. I would understand if it anti-synergied with them on a class that didn’t have any innate WPS, but hell, Soldier has an innate 50% WPS even.
Blood of dreeg and pneumatic burst- just all round good for any build
Maivens - everyone wants to be tanky
Heart of the wild and military conditioning - Allows squishy chars to be less squishy
Blitz and shadowstrike 1 point for movement is always a good choice
And the bad…
I have about 4 chars that use demo and not one where I choose ulzuins chosen. It’s one of the worst skills in the game and it’s at the end of the demo tree
Fevered rage - Giving the enemy 50% offensive ability, 150% move speed and 25% more damage is like injecting the hulk with steroids, it’s not going to be good for any char even if your really tanky I just don’t see the point.
And I think cadence and callidors tempest are a little too weak atm. Callidors costs so much to use and it’s damage isn’t that good. It’s a decent aoe for proccing things I guess. Cadence only working on the 3rd hit and not allowing wps to activate on the 3rd hit is just bad.
Nullification - The cooldown on this is borderline ridiculous when used as an ailment reliever. Specially considering a DoT once removed can just as easily be re-applied by the enemy. On the other hand the %elemental damage reduction can be useful against certain Nemesis bosses and even Mogdrogen.
I still feel it needs some work.
Ulzuin’s Wrath - Even with the new knockdown effects, I’m still not feeling it worth more than 1 point. I know it affects more targets but the damage output just isn’t there. Would probably be worthwhile if it worked independently without requiring Vindictive Flame to hit adjacent enemies.
Actually fevered rage is awesome for pure retaliation, block, and reflect builds that have high armor and high resistance and debuffs like my badass witch blade that does massive damage and can activate 4 defense abilities simultaneously in a row to easily counter act fevered rage, and killing the enemies faster.
Yeah it’s maybe the only build it actually works decent on. I guess I just hate not dying. It would work well untill you do it on the wrong mob or something. Even with insane defense that skill does buff enemies alot.
I’ve seen Ulzuin’s Chosen disparaged quite a few times and I had very little desire to pick it up on my Demolitionist, despite my entire character being built around “fire fire fire”.
Cadence was destroyed and needs a rework. Aether ray is in a bad place now, its usual requirements of building mana cost reduction and regen do not align with its current damage output. Canister bomb did not needed nerfs. Canister and grenado have very few items to support them, compare it to aether ray which you can have at 26/16 halfway through elite by accident. Phantasmal blades could use a buff.
The game lacks tools to withstand high damage outputs for longer than 3sec. Wendigo is just one of them. And I really hope that those posts over Wendigo’s usefullness will not lead to it beang nerfed to the ground, as it happened with some other defensive utilities. We need more defensive options, not less.
There are plenty of skills and passives no one puts more than 1 point into, e.g Mogdrogen’s Pact or Mirror of Ereoctes. Those should be looked at as priority, IMHO.
