What is attack?

Hi

I just played 10 days in grim dawn and don’t understand many mechnicks

My green ring have such property: - “4% of attack damage converted to health”
If i use Albreacht’s eather ray, does my character get these 4%?
What is attack damage? What type of damage does this game have more?
I have a book in my left hand, does it have any relation to attack damage?

Attack damage converted to health only applies to your weapon hits and skills that have stated “X% weapon damage”.
