I am talking about the steelshell thingies from the new expansion. The one absolutely generic enemy you encounter when you immediately start the expansion.
Turns out these guys activate a damage reduction aura which turns 1500 damage hits into 40 damage ones and those are the crits, normal hits don’t seem to even damage them at all. It is I assume that red thingy swirling around them once you damage them enough. Needless to say this insane damage reduction turns the boss crabs into much more stronger adversaries than the final boss of the original game which in itself is absurd.
So what is the trick here? I tried waiting for the damage reduction to run out but it really didn’t. I tried attacking them with melee attacks(on a mage character but hey, I had to try) and nothing seemed to happen. It couldn’t have been a resist to my particular element because I could damage them just fine before they went crazy.
So what the hell? There is no tooltip to indicate what is their problem and unlike the sphere archmages from the original game have I don’t see this ability on any character class.
Nobody cares about the boss. I can down each and every orange monster in a matter of seconds. Why do they have to take 10 minutes to kill because of an absurdly stupid ability like that? It’d be nice if they were not also race cars so I could ignore them.
The crab boss? No he wasn’t, the problem with crabs is that their defensive ability is completely random. I’ve had instances where a white crab took no damage from my skills but the boss itself got down pretty quickly. Its like rolling a dice. Here for example my hits did plain 60 damage when my sheet dps and real numbers indicate hundreds if not thousands of damage.
Look, I know the expansion was going to be completely unbalanced, I play Path of Exile, but things like this stick out as bad design.
Like I said, this is a generic monster which is not supposed to be this tough to kill.
What build are you running and how much RR do you have? And what difficulty?
Look if you try to kill an aetherial with aether damage it won’t go down easily. So maybe you’re using damage types the crab is most resistant to. Cause I didn’t have any problems in the expac monsters in specific, but I am running Poison WH
