What was your first build ever?

I am curious which build you select in your first Grim Dawn play through and why?

My first try was Acid/poison DW melee Witch Hunter.
I liked the idea of combining fast rogue melee char with powerful dot effect.I managed to reach the cap of 85 at time, but build was really squishy.Still a lot of fun.

A Pet Conjurer (I mean, obviously…), that I gave up halfway through. This was back when Hellhound had a different model. I had no idea what I was doing at the time and only ever got to Homestead.

Then came other Pet Conjurers and more Pet Conjurers…

Pistol/Shield Commando.

It was ass.

Better item support now (Stronghold) but still, don’t do Pistol/Shield Commando, kids.

Warder with a two hander.

Too long ago to be sure now, but probably a pure Soldier or maybe a Commando. We only had the 3 masteries to play with back then.

It’s been a while, I recall 4 masteries when I started – Soldier, Occultist, Nightblade, Demolitionist – and looking at the old SaveData folder versus current save folder (the ones in signature that can currently play) the oldest character seems to be from 12/28/2013 and viewing the .b17 and .gdc files it shows “Warrior” as class name, hmm.

A pyromancer https://www.grimtools.com/calc/nZo46gQN

I remember buying GD when it was still in Early Access and playing a dualwield Blademaster for one weekend until lvl 65, was fun but i didn’t play much more until the full game was released half a year later.
After release I just wanted to try out the other class combos before going on with the Blademaster. 2000 hrs later and I’m still trying out the other class combos :stuck_out_tongue:
One day though

I completely understand.Still one more different class combo to play and one more skill to try as main attack:)

2H adversary Commando was my first character but never finished Ultimate at first. I played dozens of characters on DAIL/Grim. I went back to the “real” game and finally finished all MC content on my Mage Hunter (Runebinder) right after AoM release.

I think, it’s been a few years, it was a sword and board blademaster back when there was only normal difficulty. I didn’t have a clue, it was likely an awful build, long since deleted and mostly forgotten.

Before looking into the forums?
Just occultist with focus on dreegs evil eye and basically all the stuff you don’t want to use together (pet, basic damage buff, bloody pox) just because they sounded awesome

For me it’s been an Elementalist, I first wanted brutal 2hander style and later picked demo because I thought you could destroy the walls you need dynamite for with a demo skill. I had one point in every skill and never made it past normal dificulty.

Sword and board blademaster. The level cap was something like 25-30 but since I wanted to try every skill I had just 1 point in everything. It was awful but still I had fun.

My first ever build was in AoM, where I played pet cabalist, skele focused, on HC. Made it to 100, died to valdaran shotgunning me in the face (took a couple extra projectiles because i moved sideways a bit too). Build didn’t have good stun res or high overcap lightning, ishtak didn’t proc, and i died before turtle could even proc as well, and i don’t think healing rain procced either. Yes I had all of those things.

Making it to 100 on my first ever character in a game i hadn’t played before on HC is at least something I’m proud of.

My first build was fire pet , Pyromancer with dracarris from Dashiv:D

Before paladins existed to become the best class combination, I remember pretty well my first build was a pet conjurer playing on normal mode… But I deleted it after past Warden when I realized theres veteran mode. Had to start again with another toon as game was too easy on a pet build. Real first char that made to 85 was an snb commndo. Boring resident sleeper cadence build but did the job decently. But when i think of it now I will Never be going back to a commando again as this combo is outdated as hell especially when going shield mode.:undecided:

I played a DW Witch Hunter, it focused on poison, cold, pierce, vitality. I died probably 100 times or more. I eventually finished the game with it but not before a I rerolled an elementalist and beat the game (still with quite a few deaths but way less).

Chaos Witchblade. Played S&B Cadence up to the end of Normal, got lucky with an Obsidian Juggernaut drop, went 2-handed after that point.

Mine was a Pyromancer (Demolitionist/Occultist), but it turned out to be a demolitionist with occasional help of a useless dog. Horrible build, couldn’t even beat the first boss in AoM, right after those aether cluster where you have to use the amulet Creed gave to you. Ever noticed how useless Creed is? It’s amazing how he is not able to properly do something once.
