as above. I have 240k, bought all the tabs in the transfer stash. just started on elite difficulty.
To sell? Level 8-10.
I read somewhere we need lotsa gold for crafting on ultimate… 8-10 is enough to last you whole game??
I pick them up all throughout veteran. Single rare affixes usually aren’t great whereas a double magic affix item (impervious/resistant of alacrity/celerity/vitality/attack) can be really good. If you turn them off too early you’re missing out on great double magic affix items.
I never pick up yellows to sell. You get more than enough Iron to do whatever you want naturally, though you’ll never have enough for crafting everything. Only pick up what I want to equip.
I pick up greens all through Normal. I grab yellows only until I get myself into greens in all slots.
Double yellows for weapons, off hands/shields and all yellow jewellery I pick up until I hit 500K of iron bits, then shift to only picking up jewellery double yellows + green, sticking to only green items of very high value in the key’d dungeons. Once rolling 1.5 million, it’s down to if I have any crafting spree’s planned on what I pick up.
All this means is that most of my level 85’s will have all the bits they’ll ever need for crafting relics or gambling at the celestial smith.
As for what I keep, anything that fits a hole in that or another build’s itemisation or could be the centre piece for a new build.
I don’t pick them up after I have yellows in all slots, then I set to only show greens and above.
If it is your first char, I think it is ok to pick up yellows maybe through end of veteran so you can afford everything(faction boost, stash space, faction gear).
On subsequent characters I don’t pick up yellows after all slots are filled. Money will not be as tight later.
After I have a piece of equipment in every slot I stop picking them up. You can still find individual pieces that are relatively good for quite a while, but the amount of time you spend comparing and selling everything is too annoying and I suspect it is actually inefficient as well… you could spend that additional time finding better stuff quicker.
Some yellow are quite good. All the resistant/impervious/vampiric of alactrity/vitality/celerity… you are missing on these?
I am still wearing yellow items at level 60-65 usually.
had to made this:
I have a level 35 right now that already had over 150K iron just from picking up auto iron drops and selling only Greens+. Sure there are lots of Blueprints, odds and ends to craft, and stash slots to buy if you are new but once you get to 30+ it is not hard to rack up the dough. Once you get to Homestead craft you some Dynamite and go to town on every Treasure Trove you find also.
Swear off yellow selling for good (yes, even with a brand spanking new toon) and never look back. Every new person makes this mistake. I know I did when I was new. Within a month I realized it was useless to bother with them. The game DOES provide. Amply.
Hell, by the end of Normal/Vet you will be grabbing so many Greens you will seriously start considering only grabbing Blue+.
Around level 10-15 in the Crucible.
Show all levels 1-10. Yellow and up 12-20. Green and up 21-85. Farming characters purples only.
Recently started to craft a few items like BoM’s , so now at lvl 85 I am once again picking up yellows .
I only pick up the ones that are an upgrade, and typically only pay attention to a few key words like vitality, alacrity, attack, etc.
150k won’t even craft you a single Mythical Relic…or one of those stupid BoM. Actually 150k will allow you to try for a Random Legendary.
I had 11M on my first character thinking I would never see the end of it and I was finding it funny people were trading for Iron Bits.
I now have 230k on that same freaking characters thank to the last run of Crucible I did (yeah was even below that amount at one point).
Perhaps you were skipping the point where I said I was only 35? Plus from the 30’s onward you get Green drops like candies going out of style. There is zero reason to waste time picking up countless yellows. It simply slows you down with little gain.
Ignoring yellows you can focus on picking up items that give you more return for the investment while simultaneously keep moving forward/progress and not having to stop and pick up items, return and sell, every screen or two. And don’t even get me started if a person also happens to be the type to feel the need to check over every single item, either due to being new and low game knowledge, or simply some kinda OCD nut. It’s completely senseless and you can do just as well by NOT doing it.
In my experience there is little justification for yellow-looting. In terms of time wasted and value gained. The game is much more enjoyable when you actually, ya know, play the game, instead of the player-created side freakshow game of yellow-looting, becoming a portable yellow item taxi and ferry service for chump change.
Edit: it should also be noted that the values gained at level 35 as in my above example seem to be the new standard. Crate must have tweaked something because in the past the range of iron you might have at that point would usually be between 50K-100K but now I am noticing consistently higher amounts earned at these levels. With 3+ years and thousands of hours play time I’d say I have a good grasp on the topic. Don’t waste time with the chump change. Just don’t.
And I quest you were skipping the part where I mentionned having 11M in Iron Bit on my first character and being down to 230k (after looting some stuff in Crucible). Is it time consuming? Yeah obviously. Can it be needed god damn it can looting only green will limit your cash income a lot.
Do I pick every yellow of course not but pressing alt to pick a bunch of them after a couple of boss if I know I’m either near a Rift or a quest that I will have to go back in town to collect the reward I’m damn making sure I come back with a full inventory even if I have to pick up White item to do so. Any extra cash is worth it.
Pick Everything Always = Waste of time is probably true. I don’t do it
Pick Everything when the time is right will get you some extra cash that you will end up needing in the end. Crafting 10 BoM will set you back about 2M in term of Iron Bits so yeah it is damn easy to run dry.
I’m not leaving a single item on the ground when I’m running Crucible are Yellow and White automatic sell of course I don’t even look at them but I pick them up for the extra $$.
