So I haven’t made it all the way to the estates yet, but I’m close. I’ve run into a few places where I need dynamite to access. My understanding is that dynamite is down the path to the west. Should I be going that way before completing the path that goes to the east and ends at the estates, or do I google where to use the dynamite on the eastern path after I get there and earn some?

The West side of the map begins Act 2, and you’re just about to finish Act 1. You’ll be there soon. As for the dynamite thing, I wouldn’t imminently worry about it too much. Any areas in Act 1 you’ve found that require dynamite are significantly higher-level zones than you probably are at the time, with enemies in the 40s.

As soon as I have enough scrap to rebuild the bridge that leads to Act 2, I head over there and stick around until I grab the second inventory bag, some dynamite, and grab a few waypoints/shrines.
However, considering this is your first run through the game, you’re doing fine and you’ll be there soon enough.
