Hello! Just started the game a few days ago, having all the expansions. Yesterday i killed the guy in the forgotten laboratory and when i got back to the starting town i got the quest to repair the bridge on the NW but also a guy appeared outside the gates opening a portal to a desert. Running around in both areas i found the monsters being at the same level. I guess the portal is for the expansion because i found the glowing eye lady there but if i drop the base game quests will the monsters scale up if i return? What is the suggested order to do the content? Thanks for the help.
enemies in beginner areas of the game have low level limit hardcap. they do scales up to player level, but their low lvl limit hardcap will make them pretty harmless if you’ve reached around lvl 20~30 already. just do whatever content you like 1st. the monsters in main campaign are mostly weaker than the expansion monsters anyway. but you still have to be careful if you encounter groups of champion monsters. if enemies seem to hard in certain areas, go to safer areas and farm there until your level and defenses are good enough to tackle them.
Monsters in base game will scale up but not as much as in expansions. Suggested order is to finish base game, then go to Malmouth and then the desert from Forgotten Gods.
By the way, welcome to the game and this forum! This is a great community so stop by and read and post as much as you need to- lots of helpful people and resources here, everyone is passionate about the game here, and you can get some great ideas reading many of the posts as you learn more about the game.
Do whatever you want, the game is built to give you that kind of freedom… but I would follow @Res in doing the suggested order your first time through. This will familiarize you with the lore, factions, rogue-like dungeons and their locations, secret areas, shortcuts, and make all future builds experiences more fluid- thats important since the game has such insanely high replay value due to the creative depth in regards to building your character. God im so envious. Wish i could go back and experience it all over again for the first time… Savor it, no need to rush.
