Which Cold based build is all around best?

Hi Guys,

Cold is the only dmg type i dont have a char based on so i was thinking to do one.

What would you advice as a same time very fun, flashy and strong build (Lokarr farming ,Crucible etc)?

My knowledge on cold builds is limited - i know of Spellbreaker with Deathmarked (though i remember it was squishy as hell unless abusing the ring of steel + mirror combo), Corba trickster or Trojan`s?

Thank you in advance!

-TSS+PB Nuker (CDR build)
-Eye of The Storm Korba Trickster
-1 pc Deathmark Spellbreaker
-2h CDR Aeon’s Alkamos Scythe Cold Breaker

These are what come to mind

Out of these the only one fully updated on the forums is Korba Trickster

Bump that thread since Fluff plans to post an updated setup if people are genuinely interested in it
Hope this helps

I wonder (if I ask him nicely) if he would update my Bleeding Trickster for Crucible if this is even possible.

This is just an observation, but there seems to be more build specialisation nowadays. Do-everything, jack-of-all-trades builds seem to be more rare. Crucible builds tend to be too slow for Campaign and Campaign builds tend to be too squishy for Crucible. Ravager killer builds are too ultra specialised for Ravager, etc.

Even switching from farming Sharzul to farming Alkamos for example may mean swapping out Runebound Topaz for Frozen Heart and making up for the DA loss through Ravager’s Eye or even a change in devotion setup.

I know, no Hourglass, low HP and only 2500 DA (with PB active). It’s a sin I’m very happy to commit :p. Lokkar and all nemesis are doable, with some kitting, but I dobut it can go far in the crucible. Very satisfying on the damage department though.

Eh? Jut pop an Hoarfrost Ointment before fighting Alkamos. They are cheap to make and you can make them a lot in bulk if you want to farm him.

I’m leveling a Cold Dual Wield Ranged Inflitrator atm. We’ll see how it handles Nemeses, Mad Queen and the rogue dungeons. Probably would suck for Crucible because Crucible is so overtuned and biased towards defense that just makes things really boring.

Totally want to have one, but cant stuck good OA.

Mine has 2500 with LA up at level 80. Still missing several sources of OA and LA is still not maxed (need the rest of my gear, probably around 2700-2800 at level 85 after i equip my level 82 and 84 stuff). DA is also in a good place with 2200 and still gonna get a lot more (Runebound Topazes, Ugdenbog Leather and devotions).

I could, but why consume 33+ frozen hearts when I can just consume two? That’s the point.

Seems like a waste to me for just one enemy. Two if you count Moosilauke. While Runebound Topaz is universal and it’s not hard to get near cap freeze resist without frozen hearts.

It’s not a waste when being frozen for longer may mean death in a rogue dungeon and a waste of a skeleton key. Capping freeze resist without frozen hearts usually means sacrificing a lot more than just some DA. Not every class consists of having two of Inquisitor, Soldier, Nightblade, and Arcanist.

I have several builds who don’t have none of those masteries and have near or capped freeze resist. And i really didn’t sacrificed anything.

And it’s a waste in my opinion to fill the ring slots with frozen hearts when you can just pop an Hoarfrost Ointment and still keep the Runebound Topazes/whatever other component. Mainly because the only enemies that freeze constantly are Alkamos and Moosilauke.

Some stuff i have been theorycrafting

And how many other builds in this forum that don’t have those masteries don’t have near or at capped freeze resist by default? A few examples does not make a rule.

And again, how is it a WASTE to SAVE 31+ frozen hearts? It’s established that it’s a good idea to have high freeze resist for farming SoT, so either frozen hearts or ointments are required (usually). The former results in some lowered DA and the easiest way to make up for it (Ravager’s Eye) results in some lowered OA, usually (since most people put OA-giving augments on their weapon(s) by default). The latter means expending a lot of frozen hearts. Perhaps you’ve seen all those threads about how frozen hearts are a bitch to farm?

Dunno about you, but given the choice of 50-ish OA while farming vs. 31+ frozen hearts, I’ll take the frozen hearts.

Freeze resist’s importance for me depends on how much I’m going to fight Moosilauke/Alkamos really. For a few random runs, I’d just use Hoarfrost Ointment, if I’m planning on farming either one extensively, I’ll work to get myself a spare set of rings (if possible, won’t bother if I’m using/need MI rings) and place Frozen Hearts on them and swap them around with my usual set I use for everything else as required.

Yep, that’s what I mean - doing SoT almost exclusively for 100+ consecutive runs. Specialisation matters here.

Thats truth, different, lets say parts of the game, require different setups mostly due to huge differences between them. Crucible, main game and Ravager are almost like 3 hugely different mods of the game and builds that are jacks-of-all-trades, efficient in all tree parts of the game, are rare.

Ravager builds need to have high dps to be able to put him down in reasonable amount of time, with high phys resistance, armor value, coupled with high HP pool and good OA/DA balance (sept for retaliation builds OA/DA should be above 3k at least). Most other resistances including CC can be pretty much neglected.

Main campaign builds, since main campaign is easiest part, are most forgiving and can go almost all out offense, tho most resistances cant be neglected like in Ravager case.

Crucible builds needs to be tanky in all aspects with high emphasis on overcaping main resistances and reasonable amount of CC resistance. Offensive stats for crucible builds are easy gained trough crucible buffs thus not so important like defenses.

Stating all that till now I managed to make only 2 builds that pretty much fits profile of jack-of-all-trades, one is DW phys WB already posted and I hope that I will find time to post other one soon.
