For me it’s the Guardian of Solael. That one nearly always causes at least one death before I bring it down unless I’m playing a pet build. ![]()
Crabs for me
The duo in the Cronley’s fighting pit.
The stun jacks and storm box killed my low level characters quite often.
I tend to avoid them unless I’m a pet build. Have beaten them a few times with non-pet.
Pit boss champions, bolvar, zaria, kraken, ramzul
Crate and Mog. I play very defensive melee characters, these two are so tough to beat.
i have no idea
the trauma makes you forget ![]()
i kinda think one of the act 1 totems mebe, like the one in warden cellar with the abominations, among other early spawners (cave one etc).
Mostly because i feel like i’ve only died a “couple” of times to stuff like gutworm/ronaprax/pit boss before just deploying cheese strats or special stats awareness checks. But i still get a bit overconfident with early totems sometimes
- specially around lvl 15/after finding Angrim or Duncan and slapping components in my gear ![]()
Bolvar and Zaria, for freshly levelling characters.
Bolvar has insane burst damage on random WPS skills and if you don’t have enough Chaos Res and HP, can instagib you in a volley. Lost a couple HC chars to him already in the mid 40s. One of the bosses I respect the most now.
Zaria has the crystal summons. Those crystals deal a ludicrous amount of damage if they both hit you at the same time. Again, on a mid 40s character, if you can’t kill the crystals in about 3 seconds after spawning or move out of range, you WILL get instagibbed by chaos damage hitscan. Doubly so, if you happen to be cursed by her at the moment (good luck having a 25% chaos overcap when levelling).
Funny, considering both used to be absolute pushovers, before they got touched up to be the deadly menace they are now.
Honorable mentions:
Voldrak. 1 shot potential, especially if he rolls well on the weapon. Even on finished characters, if you misplay, and get your squishy caster hit by his overhead slam with a +600% physical damage roll, you are probably dead. Combined with his enrage at low health, it can bonk you deceptively fast. But at least he has quite clear telegraphs. Unlike Bolvar…
Pre-nerf Grava’Thul. Anybody who didn’t experience the release version of Grava, did not experience true Grava. I honestly wouldn’t mind reverting it. He’s a pushover nemesis now, whereas he killed me multiple times at his full power level.
Was this guy nerfed at some point, because he used to be lethal and is easy now?
I imagine there are going to be campaign bosses in FoA whose names are soon going to be notorious for instagibbing the player.
Mostly the obvious difficulty spikes: Gutworm, Salazar (much less than Gutworm cause of no stuns/traps), the champions of the pit (Acedian and Protoss, not Boris). The pit guys especially are massively overtuned for how early they come up. After that point I don’t think any enemy in particular stands out, the character starts to get pretty strong and the bosses don’t get more unfair than Gutworm and the pit guys. Gargabol used to be my nightmare but I now just play like a coward and kite him out in phase 2 and don’t die to him anymore. Loxmere used to be up there back in the day.
Guardian of Solael is a classic with death-by-purple-stuff. Sometimes Rutnick evaporates me with a solid aether volley. But I think Skeletal Knights during the period when they were capable of routinely exploding my bones for their calcium-rich inner core may have racked up the most kills, especially from seemingly out of nowhere.
This is an impossible question for me to answer. The entirety of act 1, Stone Clan Warriors, skeletal archers and Darius fucking Cronley are all in play.
Zaria.
/10
+1 /10 characters.
Mostly totems that I’m not ready for
Not any specific enemy that I can remember. Though Skeleton Knights have to be pretty high up the list.
Rift Scourges - those that spit acid in act one - many a young character has fallen to them in the first hour of its life… which caused me to develop unhealthy hatred of the little buggers
Well, the only (three) times I died were due to either my own recklesness (the last time) or lack of knowledge (the first two times). Those first two were due to:
-
Arcane hero (didn’t know what it was until I was sent back to the main menu)
-
Reflect hero, which used uno reverse on my giga stacked internal trauma and proceeded to die smiling, because he knew I was there alone with nobody to leech off and having 20+ sec of that shit on me. I was slowly watching myself dying. Healing flask went off. And with about 3 seconds remaining I was sent to the main menu.
But going back to the question, this isn’t my final answer. Those were more of “now you know” moments and I never had problems with them ever since (I paid the price for that knowledge after all).
What actually gets me every single fucking time is those fucking mages in the end of FG.
Never died to them, but every other character has that “get rekt” moment with my hp plummeting. Honestly I’m surprised how I never lost a character to that shit, but these locations keep on my toes every time.
FoA? FG you mean. ![]()
Well, I am not going to count the encounters with Celestials, when my characters were absolutely not prepared for this kind of encounters (and still, mostly are not prepared for).
But most “discomfortable” encounter for me is with Kravall and Loghorrean.
But there is no unkillable monster to a well-built Aether AAR Spellbinder [only moster, which I haven’t killed with this one is Crate].
Oh absolutely, brain is borked, was writing that at 3am
