Why is it less powerful ?

Hey guys, quick question from a noob !

I got those three weapons, i play a very chaos oriented witchhunter. I Don’t understand why the " Empowered Voidblade " does this much less DPS than my one handed sword " Relentless Raider Sabre of Alacrity " when the difference is only between : " 36-94 Physical Damage " > " 38-66 Chaos Damage " What am i missing please ?

This is a link to screenshot of it , i’ll delete it if it’s not allowed.

Read up on game mechanics a bit.

Your gear, skills and devotions seem to provide much more scaling for physical damage than they do for chaos.

This is normal: you typically pick one damage type and try to get as much out of it as possible. And if you’re new to the game, physical is probably the way to go.

I’m not saying you should sell the sword immediately, but maybe it’s not right for this particular character.

Even if you have the same amounts of damage for both, physical and chaos, the chaos damage is still much smaller. For example, if you had 100% bonus to all damage, you’d deal 72 - 188 physical and 76 - 132 chaos damage. On average, 130 physical, 104 chaos damage. With 1000 bonus damage, it’d be 720 - 1880 and 760 - 132, so 1300 and 1040 average damage.

As biopon said, you have way more physical damage than chaos. I’d assume your chaos damage is around 200 - 300% and physical around 500 - 600%.

For the future as well, another thing you have to consider is armor piercing. If you have a sword that has something like 15-30% armor piercing and then you’re looking at an axe for a replacement that has like 10%, unless the axe is quite a bit worse it will probably say it gives you an increase in dps but you have to consider that those calculations (I believe) are without any armor taken into account.

You can also hold control while mousing over a weapon to remove any augments from components you have on it in dps calculations.

One thing to mind, though, is the way damage gets resisted.
Chaos goes straight through armor, that would stop some (or more) of your physical damage.
So pure dps may not be all that matters unless the difference is HUGE.

Attack speed on your equipped weapons is what is making the tooltip show much lower dps when compared

Thank you all for these answers, god i feel so stupid for not knowing you could compare between weapons holding CTRL. I think i understand it quite better ! This game is insane, that might be the first game where i have exactly at this moment 8 Post-its on my screen to compare and remember some stuff  Thank you again !
