Would you play a Priest / Cleric Mastery?

Hi there,

I am currently working on a mod which will include new areas to explore, new quests and stories, bosses and at least 1 new mastery.

I have talked to some people and it seems that most would welcome a priest mastery, including holy attack spells, restoration for defense, and some melee abilities for a paladin-like playstyle perhaps.

Is this something you would like to see in a mod? If not, what new mastery would you like to see?

The main problem I see with traditional Priest/Paladin class is that GD doesnt work the way of say traditional D&D, there isnt “good” or “evil”, but (50) shades of (earl) gray.
So by adding “Holy” you would basically add a damage type of which there are no resistances unless your willing to add res to ALL monsters with varying degrees.
Imo, yet again, everything yar typical Priest should do can be done with combination of masteries, devotions and gear.
Let`s say for example the traditional Turn Evil.
Inquisitor has that in form of Seal.
Havin all priestly abilities in single mastery might be a bit unbalancing?

I’ll play anything not pet or retaliation.

It’s for a mod, it doesn’t need to follow the rules of GD and its good/evil/gray.

As for holy, you cannot create a damage type or resist type, you can only rename/retrofit what exists. Most modders create “holy” damage by utilizing the Kymon’s chosen damage types, usually fire/lightning/physical/aether. I’m guessing that is what OP is planning since it’s really the only option unless he is renaming dmg types.

Anyway, for myself, if I still had interest in actually playing GD (and when I do I’m generally just playing my own self made masteries to find bugs…) a cleric mastery would be cool if done right. Priest… eh, idk. Maybe. Back when I played Neverwinter Nights and other DnD games, I try to go for a Cleric class. Evil Clerics are where the fun is at…

Thanks for the feedback everyone. :slight_smile: What I mean with holy damage is essentially fire damage, maybe mixed with some other damage types. I just want to make the abilities look like holy damage.

I’ve been wanting a Priest-type mastery in Grim Dawn for awhile - I’d definitely play it if you create it. I’d also love to play as a mirage/illusionist. I was bummed to see the player creating the Mesmer from Guild Wars discontinue his work.

to me it doesn’t really fit into the setting of Grim Dawn
what I would like to see is a class that can among other things heal itself as well as others, making it a nice support mastery
although Grim Dawn is a single player game in nature, I think the game would benefit from it

Do players forget there is a certain mob called, “Skeleton Priest”? Since they exist I don’t see why the player themselves can’t play as one. Even if their skills are fire/burn damage focus, it can still work around the mastery.
