I just fought the Loghorean for the 1st time in Elite with my conjurer.
As skills I mostly use Hellhound and Briathorn with Doom bolt for dps (+ terror relic I crafted before the fight) and the meteor shower from devotion (among others).
I join people telling this fight is badly designed, at least for pet-based builds.
(Or the pets are badly designed although they work for most of the game).
As I read in a thread, a game is played for the fun, this fight is not fun.
I read some people (classes/builds) have no issue and kill him in 2 minutes. Great. This is not the case for my build.
I needed around 40 minutes and many deaths.
I read that some skills invoke the adds if you get hit. Although I can avoid those with my character, the pets won’t. Wich means I quickly get swarmed, even if I manage to, kind of, clean up the adds.
Additionally, the only pet command we have is “move”, and then they just go where they want. While it works for most of the game, it does not for this fight.
I read people with totems also have a bad time as the totems attack whatever they want.
Those issues have already been reported months ago (I found threads from december 2015).
So, at the very least:
make the spawn skills of this boss not trigger on pets (totems, etc …).
give us an attack command for the pets (including totems).
Be sure that I will think twice before buying the expansion at full price if there is no redesign/improvements on pet-based builds for this fight.
Edit: Alternatively you can select pets 1-5 through F1, F2, … F5 and then click on a target to manually assign them to different targets. F6 selects all pets and is essentially like the skill seen above.
you’re right in that it is not easy for a petbuild but since they fixed it there is nothing wrong with the mechanics of fight
as you can see in this video he throws confuse that are the problem but then you just use Pet attack and click on him
I do not understand that you say we do not have a pet attack Clicking on earth they move themselves
if you click on him then they attack him
Regarding my resistances, yes they are certainly not high enough.
But my character was already 75 and did not drop anything good (ot way too slowly).
Regarding the pet attack command.
Yes, I have the one Ceno shows in the screen (thank you for taking your time).
But it behaves more like a “move attack” command in a RTS.
The pets never focus the monster I click on. They always move in the area and attack whatever they want then.
I once spammed this command on the Loghorean and they did not even bother moving in its direction. They stayed on the spawns they were already on.
Same goes with the “Fx” functions.
When I started the game, I tried them but they did not seem to work.
After reading your answers I tried again.
I specifically selected my hellhound and a monster.
The hellhound staied on the monster he was already attacking. He did not even move towards the ennemy I clicked on. And I tried 3 times.
In the video of Powermonger, you get to a point were there is no spawn, I guess that in this case, the Loghorean being the only ennemy they go for it.
I can’t reach such a point were there is no spawn.
I’m sure when I will be 85 and equiped I can do the same, but when you are on the go, in ELite, and not dropping good enough stuff (or too slowly), this does not work.
The fight should take this fact into account.
At 85 this is the very end game and all you have to do is equip yourselves.
But, before that it is another story.
Getting decent resistances without regard to damage has little to do with drops. Just farm the Devil’s Crossing or Homestead merchants for gear. Remember to use oils/tinctures as well.
I’ve never had a problem with the pet attack command like you are describing. It isn’t the best, and if there are mobs in the way of the target there may sometimes be a problem, but if I tell my pets to attack a monser next to them they always do it. I usually end up moving the pets next to the monster I want them to attack, then telling them to attack it and it always works.
Pet builds are one of the least gear dependent builds in the game. On my summoner, I beat elite log at level 68 with mostly faction gear and one or two legendaries. Can you link your build/gear so we can try to see what is wrong?
Regarding the command (the one on the hotbar), I checked again more closely, while playing in one of the 1st areas.
It looks like working better than I originaly thought.
Yet I clearly see that often, only one of the pets go attack the monster I select.
When they are doing nothing, all go attack the monster I focus. When they are busy with a monster, only 1 go attack.
Being 76 now, I mostly gave points to Briathorn, Hellhound, Doombolt is maxed (compared with the build) as well as Bysmael at 6.
The one that needs the most boost yet is Mogdrogen.
I see why you might be having problems. Pet skills aren’t worth it, only put one point in the auras/buffs, and drop the rest. Doom bolt can also be dropped. That would free up 60 points to put elsewhere. Primal Spirit is the best pet in the game, you should get it. Also, you have no devouring swarm, grasping vines, or curse of frailty, so how are you proccing your devotions?
For gears I have 3 legendaries:
Devil’s cage Hauberk (with Mutated scales)
Arcane Harmony Leggings
Voidwalker footpads
As an off-hand I have the green Elite Rowhari Codex (lvl 70).
My weapon is empowered Voidblade.
Regarding my build.
Yes I was thinking about the more “shamy” build, but for another character.
Why are the pet skills there, if they are not up to par ? Maybe Crate should review them then.
For the procs:
Doom bolt has shepherd’s Call
Hell hound has meteor shower (this is my main DPS and works very great).
Briathorn has flame torrent.
Bysmiel has Giant blood
And I plan ghoulish hunger on Mogdrogen’s Pact.
It doesn’t mean they are the ONLY choice when playing a pure summoner. BoD, CoF and many other are way better since they directly (or indirectly) boost your pets stats and thus damage output. It doesn’t matter when they have aoe skills which they may or may not use hits for 50k when their normal attacks could hit for 30k (only a few examples)
Look out for gear with +pet stats, mainly attack. You can always heal them with BoD or just resummon to recover their health. Also don’t underestimate hellhounds aoe on death, it can get pretty ridiculous
You should compare your build with this one. Imo that is the most efficient way to play a pet conjurer and even if you don’t want to follow a certain build created by someone else (for w/e reason), you could get some ideas how create your own one.
None of the three legendaries you listed are for pet builds.
I’m also intrigued by the idea of using meteor shower as a pet attack. I never noticed before, but by shuffling a few points around you can keep howl of mogdrogen while getting meteor shower. You would lose a little OA and damage, and more importantly can’t keep acid spray, but would gain an incredibly damaging devotion. I’ll have to try it out.
I completed Ultimate with a pet conjurer and, while the third Log fight was a little bit of a challenge, I never felt like it was impossible, broken, or unreasonably pet-unfriendly. There were times when my pets didn’t seem to want to focus on Log, so I just had them kill the adds and then they went back to Log.
I also felt like the AI obedience issues in that fight might have been deliberate. If the pets behaved perfectly reliably then the fight would have been trivially easy. Completing Ultimate is not supposed to be a participation award; you need to do more than just show up to win.
Here’s the pet build I beat ULog with: http://www.grimdawn.com/forums/showthread.php?p=413194#post413194 . Note that I had 5 permanent pets out, plus Primal Spirit on cooldown. If you’re trying to run a pet build with just 2 pets, that may be part of your problem. There are known balance issues with hybrid pet builds being very weak compared to fully committed pet builds.
EDIT: Reading through your posts more carefully, you definitely have a hybrid pet build. 11 points in Doom Bolt, and a Terror relic (while Log is immune to Terror anyway) … do you not trust your pets to do damage? Focus on fixing your pet problems, you shouldn’t need to be doing any damage yourself.
If you think log is bad just wait for the hidden path boss on ultimate. Had to give up on that one with my pyromancer. Only fabius has made me do that up until that point
Well you have to only move out every now and then once he spawns his crystals. Other than that it’s a pretty easy fight on any character, as long as you have some gear and a proper build.
I don’t know if that’s even possible. Last time I checked only champions and nemesis can spawn with weapons. Bosses like this guy can’t, to my knowledge.
i think it’s possible (just an assumption though). Kilrian for example do spawn with weapons, so that may be possible for other bosses (in the other hand i never see Cronley drops a weapon so its hard to figure it out)
I have around 20 legendaries, 9 of them are armors, 3 of them I wear.
Hence the other 6 are even less for my build/gameplay. You know the game rng, right ?
I have posted a video showing my gameplay:
! Keep in mind my character is 78, facing 80+ (more usually 82+ with some 84 heroes towards the end) but still equipped with some items being in the 40-60s !
This is the only character I play (and the 1st one).
When I started the game I probably overlooked the heal spell.
And I felt too unuseful just behind my pets so I decided to help them with doom bolt.
In the last few days I dropped the “savage” relic blueprint, which is more suited to pet build, but I love the terror relic now. It helps me reducing the ennemies res and when one monster decides to attack me and not my pet, it helps too.
As you say, I resummon pet when necessary, and I rarely need to resummon one while it is on CD.
The only issue I have is when facing bosses, and few heroes but appart from that I love the gameplay.
I beat Warden Krieg in Ultimate, it was a pain, I died 10 or 15 times and only Valdaran was impossible for me to kill (he was 84 and displayed in Red), I could bypass him.
