Ulfgarn, Son of Garn
You return, and with your head intact.{^n}{^n}Perhaps I was not wrong to place this trust in you.
Farewell, Ulfgarn.
You return. Were you unable to reach the High Chieftain?
What should I say to them?
High Chieftain Yigra is a stern ruler, but she should hear you out.{^n}{^n}At the least, the mere arrival of a lowlander should pique her interest.{^n}{^n}Speak plainly. If your intentions are true, you will be no enemy to the Kurn.
Alright.
I still need to speak to your chieftain.
I trust the journey is not too much for you?
Where do I need to go again?
With the passage to the valley open, you must traverse the Icebound Passage and enter the Freyoll Valley.{^n}{^n}Travel north through the valley until you have reached the gates of Kurnhold.
I will head there soon.
I am off.
Best be on your way, lowlander.
Farewell.
You've returned?{^n}{^n}Is this matter not of importance to your people as well?
I may have misplaced the sigil.
Surely you jest.{^n}{^n}No Erulian has crossed into the valley in centuries, and you would squander the opportunity?{^n}{^n}Here. Do not lose this one.

I will be more careful.
Where do I need to go again?
With my sigil in hand, head northwest until you reach the mountain's edge. The way down into the valley is hidden, but my sigil will light your path.{^n}{^n}The Icebound Passage lies beyond. It is not a route taken lightly, even by seasoned Kurn, so be on your guard.{^n}{^n}Past it, you will enter Freyoll Valley. Head north until you have reached the gates of Kurnhold.
I may have misplaced the sigil.

I will head there soon.
I have some questions.
Your scouts had many questions too as their lives hung on by a thread.{^n}{^n}What is it?
What do you do here?
I am keeper of Frostveil who ensures the unworthy never stumble upon the path to our homeland.{^n}{^n}I spend my life breath trying to live up to my forefather's legacy.{^n}{^n}It is a burden I gladly bear.
What did your forefather do?
My ancestor, Garn the Breaker. Some say he broke the hold of the Great Annihilator on our people, others say he broke the Kurn tribes asunder and put us at the mercy of Erulan. Perhaps both are true.{^n}{^n}In his time, the Kurn clans united to push back the Erulan invaders. The Kurn hordes were unstoppable at first but Erulan eventually learned to counter our fighting style. It became a grueling war for both sides and the Kurn began to lose ground. In a last desperate bid to destroy Erulan, the Martok clan *Ulfgarn pauses to spit on the ground* turned to forbidden summoning rituals most thought lost since the darkest times of long buried ancestors.{^n}{^n}They unleashed an army of shadow spawn that threatened to consume all. Seeing the wrong in this, Garn chose to turn his forces upon the Martok summoners, even if it meant the eventual defeat of the Kurn. Perhaps his actions led to the sorry state you see the Kurn in today but if the Martok had succeeded, it could have meant the end of us all.
The Great Annihilator?
He from whom was spilled the blood of creation, the ever dying one.{^n}{^n}The elder god is known by many names, but all tongues know of Ch'thon, he who dwells below creation.{^n}{^n}His worship is like a cancer. It only spreads and consumes.
I have other questions.
Ch'thon's cult is in Erulan as well.
That was all. Thanks.
I have another question.
That was all. Thanks.
Then why did you aid the scouts?
I have another question.
That was all. Thanks.
Why did you aid the scouts?
It is my sworn duty to keep outsiders from reaching the valley, but that duty does not remit offering aid to the helpless. Amatok teaches us to extend a hand to travelers in need. Your scouts were underequipped and fending off a raging beast marked by the rot.{^n}{^n}They were doomed if not for my intervention, and we are not at war. If we were enemies under the messenger's light, rest assured that I would have stood on the side of the beast, then dealt with it in turn.
I have another question.
That was all. Thanks.
Why is reaching your people so difficult?
Lifetimes ago, Kurn fought the sons of Eru, invaders from across the sea, who came here fleeing some great evil that consumed their homeland. We turned a blind eye as they conquered all lands along the coast.{^n}{^n}Eventually though, they pushed inland and Kurn do not yield, so a long and bitter war began that brought both peoples to the brink of destruction. The land still reels from the dark and desperate deeds of that age. Since then, an uncertain truce has endured but each side is wary of the other. Erulan builds walls to fend off Kurn raiding parties and the Kurn raid to stop Erulan settlements from appearing along our borders, like mushrooms after a rain.{^n}{^n}The unforgiving landscape and beasts that would tear you apart in a heartbeat also play their part.
I have another question.
That was all. Thanks.
I may have misplaced the sigil.

Actually, nevermind.
I am headed there now.
Do you wish to speak after all?
I wish to learn of the corruption.
My people, the Kurn, have long contended with the darkness, but I am no skald and will not speak of such matters directly.{^n}{^n}I admit, I believed all Erulians soft, but you have shown yourself to be a warrior of some talent.{^n}{^n}May I not live to regret this but, with all that is at stake, perhaps this calls for a meeting of our people.{^n}{^n}If you wish to learn more of the rot that chokes life from our land, you will need to head to Kurnhold. Though... getting called to speak may prove difficult.
Where is this Kurnhold?
Kurnhold is the ancient meeting place of the clan chiefs, and the last safe bastion in a dying land. It lies far to the northwest in a valley not yet touched by the deepening cold.{^n}{^n}I have a sigil which will grant you entry into Freyoll Valley. The door is hidden, but my sigil will reveal the way. The Icebound Passage beyond is treacherous, but if you are as capable as the battle with Garmir has shown, then it should be a trifling matter. Traverse the passage and travel north through the valley. Kurnhold will be impossible to miss. Once there, present my sigil to the guards and ask to speak to the High Chieftain. Tell them Ulfgarn sent you and maybe your head will remain on your shoulders long enough to speak.
Alright, I will seek out your chieftain.
This is too dangerous.
May I ask some questions?

So about Kurnhold...
I have another question.
Ch'thon's cult is in Erulan as well.
I'll be right back.

Nevermind, so about Kurnhold...
I'll be right back.
I have more pressing matters back in Erulan.
May I ask some questions?

I'll be right back.
You wield strange magics, lowlander, but that was an impressive feat. I'd have thought your death screams would echo in the peaks, but here you are, victorious.
It is not my first time contending with the void.
The taint of he who dwells below creation reaches farther with every passing moon.{^n}{^n}Not even the beasts of Asterkarn are spared his putrid touch.{^n}{^n}It does not surprise me that his foul tendrils have infected your lands as well.
Your people know what caused this?

I'll be right back.
The danger has passed. You should tend to your people.
Who are you?
I am called Ulfgarn, Son of Garn.{^n}{^n}I am keeper of these lands.
Why did you help our scouts?
It is my sworn duty to keep outsiders from reaching the valley, but that duty does not remit offering aid to the helpless. Amatok teaches us to extend a hand to travelers in need. Your scouts were underequipped and fending off a raging beast marked by the rot.{^n}{^n}They were doomed if not for my intervention and we are not at war. I see.
I need to check on the scouts.
Agreed.
We will speak soon.
Careful, lowlander, lest you draw the beast's ire.
I'm here for these people.
They will not get far with Garmir roaming the highlands.{^n}{^n}I have kept those that remain safe, for now.
What is this creature?
A once noble denizen of the mountains. Its mind is rotten, consumed by the tendrils of corruption. Garmir now seeks only butchery and blood.{^n}{^n}My people know how to handle this. Best you stay back.
There is no time. I will handle it.
Corrupted beasts are my specialty.
Then the beast must die.
Who are you?
I am called Ulfgarn, Son of Garn.{^n}{^n}I am keeper of these lands.

I'll deal with the beast.
I'll deal with it.
Be on your way. Frostveil is no place for lowlanders.
I'm already leaving.
