When I load a saved game, I often have to go back and change the worker assignment levels back to where I had them when I got off. It seems that the game tries to fill all open roles when it loads the game.
So if you have 6/7 weavers on save you’d reload and have 7/7?
Yup.
basically they use all my free labour. But not every time I load. probably every other load
Do the unfilled positions perhaps get filled when children age up, or villagers immigrate? Otherwise that sounds like a tiresome issue to deal with
The only workaround I can think of is removing the unfilled slots so nobody can fill them.
I have seen similar issues with roles getting filled automatically, not just during loading. I prefer to open all the slots, so I know how many possible positions are open. If I leave the slots locked, I have no clue and 50 years later realize that half of the ones I built only have 2/4 or 2/6 employees in them.
It would also be nice if when removing employees/workers from the big screen, it did it one at a time from each building, other than randomly emptying some of them and leaving others full. The current way is fine for manufacturing building workers, but not so much if you are clicking - on say, marketplace workers and not looking to shut down entire parts of your city.
If it weren’t so many on loading I would consider that a possibility, but it is pretty much all the available workers when it happens. I do try to disable slots when I know I wont use them for awhile, but sometimes I just get ahead in making something I need to slow down. Or I need to boost something else so I move workers temp. My towers are empty during off raid years, and those would be tedious to turn off, and sometimes those will mostly get filled on a load.
Here is a before and after save. This time it was just my towers as everything else was full. But it happens with regular buildings as well
It only happens to me on load, too. Very consistent, across multiple towns. Most/all free profession slots get autofilled on loading a game.
