0.9.7d Infants Freezing

I’m having an issue where a lot of children (mostly aged 1-4) are dying of exposure in winter or early spring. Even though I have plenty of firewood available in my town, and most houses have 100% stocks of firewood.

Looking closely at where the babies are dying, it seems to be in houses where all (or almost all) of the inhabitants are young kids. I suspect what’s happening is that the kids are too young to restock their shelters firewood, so if it all gets used up during a freezing winter, they die shortly afterwards. Those houses would normally get restocked by Grocers, but if it’s too cold outside Grocers stop working. There seems to be an override to the “too cold to go outside” rule for a villager to restock their own shelter with firewood, but that doesn’t apply to grocers stocking other people’s houses.

Allowing babies to restock firewood might solve this issue? But it would look weird. Increasing the amount of firewood stocked per house might also work, such that they stock enough during summer that it won’t run out over winter. Changing house allocation so that we don’t get entire Mansions filled to the brim with babies might be the most immersive solution.

Playing some more, I’ve noticed the same pattern over and over again.

A bunch of children (<5 years old) dying from exposure in early spring. Always in houses where everyone is either a child or has a job that prevents them from stocking their shelter (ie, soldier).
