Thanks for the data man. I am also a fan of statistics, but it takes some real patience to log that much data. I like that you are doing a decent number of runs for comparison sake. It makes for a nice bell shaped curve.
I will try some runs with your path to see how it goes. Sometimes I think I am neurotic since I feel like every enemy must be killed and every chest/breakable opened. So far, and unfortunately I can’t back this up with data as you so eloquently have, but I get decent drops from trash and objects. I know it was true when I played D2 because I did log data back then.
20 runs in (I’m doing BoC in batches of 5 as it seems to be very manageable this way), and I’ve had 5 legendaries and 21 rare mats (not including Manticore Eyes). The rates so far are:
4.9 legendaries per hour
20.6 rare mats per hour
Note: Since I’ve only got slightly over 1 hour total in running, these results are VERY rough. I expect the legendaries to increase (I had bad RNG first batch of 5), and also, if you convert mats to legendaries, it goes to over 6 per hour.
Again, this is definitely only a teaser - full results will be more accurate and detailed
TF had a very high rate of hero kills per unit time compared with other runs. The fact that Cronley’s can even come close to competing could be a result of two things:
a) Wasp heroes have worse drop rates (this isn’t a fact, just a hypothesis);
b) TF data was collected before 1.0.0.4, which is when they buffed the drop rate of items from heroes, whereas Cronley’s was done afterwards.
To be honest, if I did TF now, the rate of legendaries would probably be higher.
Either way, both Cronley’s and TF are viable ways to farm for legendaries.
When I finish my Conjurer and get back to farming I’ll start recording my data. Previous to my Conjurer I must have done over 100 of the following run on my Warder:
My usual farming route is Fabius Locations > Cronley > BoC 1st floor
I’ll record stats (probably legendary and rare mats only - I don’t want to spend my time writing down too many stats) over a course of 100 runs.
I can then add in stuff like wasps as well and see if they make any sort of difference. I’ll add in the wasps from Twin Falls and the wasps from the top of Cronleys. Between them they yield one boss and (depending on luck) between 4-8 heroes.
I find wasp heroes there 90% of the time, only adds about 4 seconds to the rn if there are none…
Ah, I didn’t even know he could spawn in BoC - there is a spawn point on the way (in the Necropolis) where I find him occasionally, and that’s the spawn I reference.
I’ve never seen Benn on the way in Necropolis…only in BoC. Running up to the east side of the bridge probably adds 10-20 seconds (as I kill things too) so would probably be more efficient to just skill it…
Since only Cronley dropped rare mats (aka brains), I decided not to include a column for it, but I can tell you that 60 kills of Cronley equated to 11 Tainted Brain Matters (that’s 18% chance for him to drop a tainted brain, this is probably 20%, accounting for random variation). And, no I haven’t converted this into a legendary, so the rate for legendaries is based solely off hero/boss/nemesis drop rate.
That makes sense. 11 rare mats in 60 kills really isn’t that much… But if you need dynamite!
I’m glad you’re such a fan of my data collections! I personally find that if I turn farming into data collection, then it actually becomes more enjoyable. Probably because I love statistics
Farming as been losing its fun for me as I’ve gotten all the gear I wanted for my main characters…maybe I should see if data collection would help… Did start a HC character and that is fun… Well…on my 3rd one now… Helps to not fall asleep while playing HC…
