(1.0.0.8) Prototype lightning ranged Elementalist

Still have yet to get the game, but this time I’m going to hold off on the Huntermentalist scheme until the Inquisitor comes out.

I decided to make an attempt at an as-pure-as-possible electrical Elementalist, only to find I’d somehow squished myself out of Briarthorn (not that critical…at least, I hope not) and Vindictive Flame (I was more interested in Ulzuin’s Wrath, but then I heard about the speed boost I somehow overlooked…). Not to mention I have surprisingly few active skills (I’m not counting toggle-and-forget skills as “active”); I’m mostly worried about this getting repetitive.

In the build, almost everything’s at half-cap because I’m still not sure what qualifies as a one-point-wonder, and this allows me room to shift things over. It would help if I knew what extra points in basal Wind Devil adds; neither GrimCalc nor the wikia is helping. I maximized Ulzuin’s Chosen and Stormcaller’s Pact for the lightning bonuses (even if the former only affects Grenado in here), and Maelstrom for the number of targets.

(No idea where I’m going to put the last two devotion points…)

Hybrid pet builds are somewhere between being difficult to make work and not worth the time in higher difficulties so don’t worry about leaving out the Briarthorn. Even if you intended it to “tank” for you, my understanding is that aggro is determined by number of hits and things like DoTs or high hitting abilities will draw that away from your Briarthorn to you anyway.

I would generally look at one-point wonders as something that isn’t important or you don’t want to max but can get benefit out of by just dropping a point into it and letting skill bonuses such as ones specific to it or + bonuses to the class do the work for you, hence the name.

Points into Wind Devil as far I remember ups the Physical/Electrocute damage. If grimcalc doesn’t have the information then the wiki should have it. The base skill is generally left at 1 point as the bulk of it’s utility/damage comes from it’s modifiers and the fact that it is great for proccing devotions, those points in the base skill could be better spent elsewhere.

Bearing in mind your grimcalc/devotions, i’de like to mention a few things:

-I’de suggest looking at trying to fit in Blast Shield, Wendigo Totem or both for survivability. The Behemoth constellation too perhaps. Your only source of recovery that I see seems to be the Wayward Soul proc from Chariot of the Dead .

-You’re sorely lacking in resistance reduction. Raging Tempest (from Wind Devil) is your only source that I see and it isn’t very reliable unless you have a key for Pet Attack on hand to direct the Devils.

Try looking at Thermite Mine from the Demolitionist tree and even if you can’t/don’t want to fit it in, definitely pick up the Widow constellation for Arcane Bomb.

Unless GrimCalc missed something (again), Thermite Mine–or more accurately, Hellfire Mine–only reduces chaos resistance. Were you thinking of Blackwater Cocktail/Agonizing Flames? That said, I did rechart the devotions to include the Widow (once I found it, anyway…), although at the cost of having to undo the Blind Seer (not enough eldritch) and the Chariot of the Dead (the points had to come from somewhere). I also removed Ulzuin’s Chosen–I may only have a few active skills, but I’m not sure just Grenado is worth going for UC–and Flame Touched, and reduced Wind Devil to one point. The refunded points went to Vindictive Flame/Ulzuin’s Wrath and (partial…{sigh}) Wendigo Totem. This is where I wonder if UW has enough range to merit being used on someone who’s going to be using missile weapons, rather than melee.

(I’m not in much of a mood to allocate the remaining ten devotion points, right now…)

Seems to be a thing that grimcalc doesn’t list the attributes for pet-like entites that scale off the player - Wind Devil, Thermite Mine, Mortar Trap, Wendigo Totem is missing the % health restored and probably some other things.

But either way, i’de refer to the wiki, even if it is outdated by a few major patches, Thermite Mines has only been taken down around 10% in RR: http://grimdawn.gamepedia.com/Thermite_Mine_(Skill).

Definitely grab Flame Touched for the OA and bonuses.

You might look low on points but if you’re planning ahead, you might want to also look at gear that will give you + bonuses to skills - you’ll be able to save up a large amount of points for skills that you’re only softcapping (not going into the ultimate ranks for).
