Greetings. As you may have known, Spellbreakers, more specifically the dual-wielding cold Shadow Strike variant, have become one of the most (overly)powerful builds in all of Grim Dawn’s history. Naturally, coldbreakers will be the target of incoming nerfs, but that is reserved for the future; for now, we thought it’s appropriate to achieve one last great feat with coldbreakers before its inevitable descent back down to the dumpster: killing Ultimate Fevered Rage Mogdrogen!
Without further ado, here is the video of the fight from my perspective.
Alternatively, here is also the video, this time from kidpid’s perspective.
If you are overwhelmed by the excitement from the previous videos, check out Drizzto’s version.
Mogdrogen, in Ultimate singleplayer, have ~18 million hp. With the 4 player hp buff, he is at around 28 million hp. Our kill time was around 25 seconds, bringing us a combined damage of 1120000 per second.
Fight breakdown:
Here are the grimtools of all our characters:
Drizzto’s Commando
DaShiv’s Conjurer
Elementoid’s Spellbreaker
kidpid’s Spellbreaker
The principle of the setup is to have a tank taking most of the hits from Mogdrogen, a support in providing buffs and debuffs for the party, and 2 dps bursting down Mogdrogen. For the tank, Soldier is a must-pick class. We chose Demolitionist as the second class because it offers the best way to hold agro by spamming transmuted Blackwater Cocktail and transmuted Stun Jacks during its cooldown. For the dps slots, we chose Spellbreaker because it has the highest single-target damage in the game (one breaker maxed the Iskandra’s Elemental Exchange tree while another maxed the Night’s Chill tree). For the support, we chose Conjurer because Shaman and Occultist were the only 2 classes we were missing in the party.
Together, the accumulated group buffs (relevant to the Spellbreakers) are:
Flame Touched for 157 OA
Field Command for 93 OA along with Squad Tactics for 15% All Damage and 5% Attack Speed
Blood of Dreeg for 150 OA
Storm Spirit for 122% and 38 flat Elemental damage
Iskandra’s Elemental Exchange for 43 flat Elemental damage and 26% Physical to Elemental conversion, Overload for 36% Elemental damage along with 96 Frostburn, and Elemental Balance for 152% Frostburn damage and 27% Crit Damage
Tree of Life for a bunch of healing
Hungering Void for 30% Crit Damage and 8% Total Speed
Doombringer banner for 20% Crit Damage
Combined, they give 400 OA, 77% Crit Damage, 5% Attack Speed, 81 flat and 158% Elemental Damage, 26% Conversion, 96 flat and 152% Frostburn Damage, and 8% Total Speed.
More impressively, here are the debuffs(relevant to the Spellbreakers):
Vulnerability for -37% Cold
Raging Tempest for -40 Cold
Necrosis for -18% Cold
Tome of Names for -20% Cold
Band of the Eternal Haunt for -10% Cold
Crescent Moon for -15% Cold
Mindwarp for 36% Reduced Target Resistances
Night’s Chill for -39% Cold
With Mogdrogen’s base 80% Cold resistance, he is now at -134.64% after the debuffs.
There were also other debuffs, such as Offensive and Defensive Ability and Total Speed debuffs, but those are minor in comparison to the Resistance Reduction values (and it’s so much work tallying them…).
Closing:
While our builds worked marvelously for the purpose of this Mogdrogen fight, they may not do the same for broader situations such as the entirety of the Main Campaign or Crucible. If you do want builds that are high-end for those situations, then I recommend checking out builds such as DaShiv’s Pyromancer, Drizzto’s Cold Blademaster, and the soon-to-be-nerfed Spellbreaker.
Special thanks to all participants of this fight: Drizzto, DaShiv, kidpid and I. Additionally, thanks to Drizzto for the creation of the Commando tank and the partial creation of the Conjurer support.
