This one is just an old char i found in my saves while i was messing with the game trying to get an understanding of all the new stuff before committing myself to a specific build.
So i basically “upgraded” the character to lvl 100, and “upgraded” her items to the higher level versions while plugging in some of the new components and augments.
I’m slightly disappointed that such things are left in the game, while other stuff that are way less unbalanced get smashed hard by the developers, but whatewer, maybe someone will still enjoy playing it.
Before starting with the “mini-guide”, is fair to state that the build is NOT really optimized yet as i have no clue if i eventually missed some new item that would be more beneficial than the ones i currently use, or in general, if there’s a better way to make this character work as intended, so if someone has a better setup feel free to tell me.
As a final note, this build is not my creation, but i can’t remember who made it and i found nothing in this forum that play exactly like this.
EDIT: A nice mate just provided the link for the original work: The Boogermancer
▀▀ THE CONCEPT ▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀
Dealing damage without actually engaging any enemy… that is. You use Veil of Shadow, Curse of Frailty, and the two Whirling Blades auras to trigger numerous acid/poison based procs while running around dodging stuff.
Offense
We want OA, RR and some Acid/Poison %damage. Around 2900 OA is enough, and we already get 111 RR (-30% from Night’s Chill, -30% from Vulnerability, -23% from Rumor and -28 flat to all resist from Acid Spray. Finally, if you follow my devotion setup, you already get all the Acid/Poison %damage that we need for the build to feel good, especially if we consider the gear we will use, but more on this in the specific gear section.
Defense
Our goal here is to slightly overcap all the main resistances, get around 2650 DA to avoid getting crit by anything, and like 400 health regeneration (we can have this much almost just by constantly having Blood of Dreeg and Pneumatic Burst both active at once). Dealing with physical damage can be done in two ways: stacking %physical resistance (Aspect of the Guardian already give 12% when capped) or having enough Armor and 100% absorption. This depend entirely on the gear one can get.
▀▀ STATS ▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀
Mostly physique. Cunning and Spirit should be raised only to meet requirements, and only if the new item is worthwhile. In my current setup i have all points into physique.
▀▀ SKILLS ▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀
This is my setup. You can toy around as you like as there no fixed way to develop this build, but remember that Night’s Chill and Vulnerability are really good for what we do. Blade Barrier is also worthwhile to have maxed.
Nightblade
Occultist
▀▀ DEVOTIONS ▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀
Again, not really optimized, but the highlighted powers are, imho, pretty much needed if you want a smooth gameplay experience. Feel free to use a more defensive setup if you play HC or simply like to be more resilient.
Devotions
Binding
I highly suggest to bind Tainted Eruption to one of the Whirling Blades, and Rumor to the other one. Then Acid Spray to Curse of Frailty and, if you take it, Scorpion Sting to Shadow Strike (again if you decide to take it, since it’s absolutely not mandatory).
▀▀ EQUIPMENT ▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀
This is easy. The build don’t require anything specific, just a bunch of random stuff we can mix and match as we like.
Basic gearing
All the gear that has an acid/poison based proc tagged with “%chance on attack”, and with decent damage and a reasonable small cooldown.is good.
The most basic stuff are items with “-of Blight” suffix, since these grant Poison Bolt:
The chance to proc is low, so if you go this route is better to stack as many of these as you can. And remember that on weapon “-of Blight” work differently, so you have to use this instead:
Try to pair the “-of Blight” suffix with a good offensive or defensive prefix on every item you can.
Notable items
The “Mythical Black Gem of Dreeg” is a pretty nice unique amulet for us (the proc is nice and the upped acid/poison resistance help dealing with reflect a lot), but again not required, while a “Seal of Annihilation” on whatever ammy you decide to use is highly suggested since it cut the enemy’s health regeneration in half.
EDIT: As suggested by some fellows, the “Mythical Plaguebearer of Dreeg” is also a nice option for one of the weapon slots. The proc has like 60% the damage of a standard Poison Bolt granted by a “Slithtongue”, and a longer cooldown (6 sec), but the RR plus the additional slow seem too good to pass up.
Also i forgot to mention the “Viperfang Grips” (not the mythical version) as a viable option for gloves. Again the proc is not as powerful (25% lower dps) as the one granted by “-of Blight” items, but has a lower cooldown and is granted on critical attacks, so should proc more. It slow targets too:)
Finally “Meledicion” is my relic, but i have it from my old save and i haven’t really looked if there’s a better option now.
▀▀ LAST WORDS ▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀
The build itself is pretty boring to play, you just run around and try to stay alive, more or less like a retaliator, but while not as resilient, it is also not as slow.
The gearing is really easy, if my memory is still good i would bet i got my old exalted gloves and boots “-of blight” just by shopping around, and with a mediocre equipment you can kill anything in vanilla no problem, outside the super bosses like ravager or mogdrogen (never tried those with this char) that just require a build carefully planned to get the task done.
Crucible is also pretty easy when you have good items equipped and untill wave 120 you don’t need to use resources to ease the thing.
