[1.0.3.2] Nightmare's Vitality Cabalist New Player Starter Build

In terms of this build dropping RE in favor of BH is probably not the best idea. RE is very beginner friendly as it keeps firing for longer than it’s own cooldown. It also fires in all directions making it easy to drop it at your feet and hitting everyone coming at you. BH is very powerful, but if you miss your cast you’ll be kiting for a bit doing no damage except with Siphon Souls and Doom Bolt. Decreasing it’s cooldown is also easy with a Bonespike and a Basilisk Crest.

@Malawi It’d like to see it, how about a GT-Link? :slight_smile:

The 10 points taking Necro from 40 to 50 are for stats, but you could take them and DB out for something like this.

why not max Spectral Wrath or at least 10/10?

I am working on the Bone Harvest budget build, but there are two options:
Either a decent 2H Spectral Warmaul and use the transmuter or the MI axe that converts pierce>vit (you can shop those at Blood grove)
And Corruptors mask for cold > vit conversion (for the flat cold dmg on BH and Soul rend) and many other easy to obtain items…

so bear in mind that this are just drafts:
https://www.grimtools.com/calc/RVvybeX2 (axe + off-hand)
https://www.grimtools.com/calc/4ZDXjbBZ (2H, this is what one should aim for, when you get good warmaul, go for this setup)
The life-steal is amazing and can be even higher with other weapon component: Haunted steal or Hollowed Fang)

The amulet is a faction blueprint, and is pretty much BiS (legs, gloves, boots, medal is pretty much whatever you can grab that gives OA/DA life res etc and one can use any off-hand just to get cooldown to BH down a bit for the axe set up)

I have many “budget” builds planned, that resembles more of the 95% purple item builds (like imagine you are poor but still wanna play a Calldior tempest and devastation build, or a Octavius S&B forcewaver…)

sorry for the newb question but obelisk of menhir says it triggers when you block, but the recommended offhand doesn’t block, ive looked for passives that might add block chance but what i’ve found is one of the obelisk nodes that increases your shield block chance rather than granting flat chance to block even without shields so im just real confused as to how you benefit from obelisk. is there something im missing? is it assuming you will use shield? or is it just there cuz there’s not much else to do with the final point? Or am i misinterpreting and youre supposed to take the +30 DA rather than the actual proc? thnx!

The guide does not mention that in detail, but you don’t take the skill proc node so you just pick up the other nodes for their good overall good defensive stats

Absolutely, I just didn’t think further than incorporating BH and pickung up a few points in soul harvest for the overall increased damage. I’m not much of a theory-crafter. :undecided:

Looking good, but how are you coping with downtime between casts of BH? Is there an easily attainable vitality-based attack one could use through a component or some other item? Like chillspikes maybe, I use those on my RoH-Vindicator between casts.

Just by reading I would rather play axe + off-hand version, for the reduced cooldown plus CDR-Reduction from the off-hand.

Anyway, thanks for sharing!

I finally reached 100 and I’m trying to farm the adherents for Dark One set, but I’m getting absolutely destroyed. Don’t have the damage to tank the huge groups of yellows while getting constantly frozen. It takes me like 10 deaths to clear all the adherents which doesn’t matter for softcore when im not losing exp anyway but still too slow. Is there anything I can do to fix this or is it purely a gear check and I’m basically stuck farming a6 heroes or something? (I don’t want to do crucible and too weak to get to 170 anyway even on challenger)

https://www.grimtools.com/calc/L2JMKLDN

the augments and components arent perfect but i dont want to waste resources trying things out. one of the big thoughts was two frozen hearts for reduced freeze but it still wont be capped so ill still die to it and it will hurt my vit res a lot

idk if i should i try to fark krieg set and make a boring s&b cadence guy to do lokarr and all that or if theres some way to salvage this other than farming another two weeks nad pray i get the last piece of gear i need to convert to the drain essence build that uses blues (probably still would be too weak) lol super frustrating to grind all the way through to ultimate just to get absolutely curb stomped by the piece of content i was hoping to farm

yeah I don’t think you can farm the dark one set with this beginner build unfortunately (and I dont think anyone has claimed that anyway. It is a good build for doing most of the stuff in the main campaign but not like the most end-game stuff you can think of) . But you should be able to do at least Step of Torment with it (dont try Bastion of chaos, the chtonics have huge vitality resistance)

I would make sure to get revered with all factions so that you can get augments in all your gear. why don’t you have ravager eye in off-hand for instance? and survivors ingenuity in amulet and rings.

You could grag sigil of consumption for more heal instead of doom bolt, and just get Decay to 12/12. Get curse of fraility higher for more radius and duration (good Quality of life).

You could get Imbued silver and Purified salt in the weapon and off-hand, for aether, bleed and chaos res - and thus free up some res so that you can improve other gear. Belt you can craft some more to get a pre/suffix that is beneficial for your build. You need pants with more armor, and you need higher armor absorption.

Most of the environmental damage is physical; which means that you’ll either need high resist/armor or some significant healing outside of adcth -unless you can path your enemies in a way to provide a consistent flow of adcth healing.

SoC is a useful heal. You can put that on some peripheral durable mob (such as a plant) and that can sustain your health for fights and exploration.

Frozen can be resolved with one consumable. Just watch out for the nullify Cathonian. He has a similar mechanic to Grava.

one easy way to get more physical resits, is to shop for Colossal Bulwarks at Hyram in steelclap (not Colossal fortress) with +20% physical resistance, like “Durable Colossal Bulwark of Vitality” or something like that. Just visit him, look on shields, if not happy, go to coven and visit the faction and regular vendor, get back to steelclap and repeat this process until you get a decent shield.

Not a permanent solution, but you only have physical resists from Aspect of the guardian now.

My Ravenous earth cabalist (that has evolved pretty far from the beginner stage) has like 19k life and 35% physical resists and all basic resistances at least 10% overcapped.

I found farming Dark One’s difficult as well with this build, but looks like I was far luckier than you gear-wise, so while I died a couple of times, it took me no more than three hours. I second the already stated advice. Armor absorption is important, you can increase it with ancient armor plates on your chest and pants. Get pants with better armor like Malawi said, as you’ll get hit there 20% of the time (mouse over your armor rating to see what I mean).

On the offensive side, what imho really helps is getting higher ranks in Ravenous Earth as it scales up well. You could also consider trying to reduce it’s cooldown even further with a Basilisk Crest. To that end getting a better relic would help such as Mortality with +1 to necro skills. If you lack the necessary blueprints, someone from the forums can craft it for you, if you bring the raw materials.

I’m not sure if your Off-Hand does much for you as it’s geared towards acid/chaos. Wendigo Caustic Effigy or the Elite Harvest Ledger might even be a better choice and they’re easy to get and test.

And apart from the tips we already gave (more armor, armor abs, health, physical res, basilisk crest, mortality relic, craft more belts) you can also get a faction blueprint for an amulet that gives +1 necro skills: https://www.grimtools.com/db/items/7569

Also farm for better bonespikes, at least 350% vitality damage you should aim for.

Thanks for the tips, I’ll try to work on some of those things.

I have a bonespike with 313% vit damage but it has a high cunning requirement. I also have a mythical virulent maw with 196% vit damage but it has a high spirit requirement, so respeccing would drop my physique quite a bit. the reason im not using it is because the paper dps of RE is much higher (by 250) with the flat chaos from Fiend’s Resolve and it also buffs DB. but ill try maw out. is a basilisk crest going to be miles better than a legendary craft? ive had trouble farming thoes, bonespikes are a bit easier to drop. but since this is my first character (played on and off a while but reset everything) it can be real difficult to craft some of the higher end stuff so the basilisk crest may be better for now. ive always played solo, dont really know anyone who plays or how trading even works lol

just go with a shield with loads of physical resists. Any basilisk crest (farm in Elite) is better than almost any other medal simply because you can cast more RE’s over time

Why elite? im guessing the mobs still scale up to drop the max level version but i assumed ultimate would have much higher drop rate for items ? or is it a matter of kill speed?

Kill speed will be better, but in elite you have lower chance of getting rare affixes. Your resistances will be better in elite too, so less scary too

made some upgrades, able to farm dark one so much more easily now. still not super fast but double SOC proc helped a lot and feeling much sturdier too!

That’s good to hear! Once you’ve completed Dark One’s I recommend switching your devotion setup to a more offensive one using Dying God. I dropped Obelisk and Scales for it. You can also try using the bonuses for the bloody pox line on Dark One’s. I tried it and didn’t like it, but you might.

nice rings and pants!

There are also rings and gloves that procs Doom Bolt, so if/when you find those you can switch skills if you want.

I would still get some more points into Curse of Fraility just for Quality of Life not having to reapply the debuff over and over again.

what would i drop for more COF? i put my last points into mot but maybe it doesnt need so many

From Decay and Blood boil (those skills scale poorly after soft-cap) https://www.grimtools.com/calc/m23QjJYZ
