You prolly lowrolled. It doesn’t matter anyway. 3 spirit might as well be zero
I used Avarice Epic amulet:D. Then equipped Ammy with spirit component.
I sometimes use Mark of dark dreams medal too for other chars
Thank you for the replies!!! Looking at my character again, I realized I am a super huge dork. On the necklace, I put a partial Seal of Annihilation instead of the whole one. That is what threw me off. Now that I corrected it, everything is good.
Hi Fluf.
I dont have the rings, amulet, helm and relic from that list :). I do have the complete set, pants, gloves and boots though.
You think it’s still worth putting together?.
Yes! I actually no longer use whispers amulet but Bloodrager, Getting more AS too. Assassin;s mark bound to upheaval. Do you have Oleron relic? Even juggernaut. Rings, anything that helps .
I’ve put off updating it until FG hits because Devotions will be different too
I’ve found both rings a couple of hours after I posted that lol, and I crafted an Oleron relic and Warborn Visor.
Still my max crit is about 200k, and not very often.
Might be doing something wrong I guess.
Try increasing your OA. Use boneshatter TReads
Some cosmetics suggestion:
bro, you gotta transmog to the Ravager helm on this build
Like, come on
I’ve found the build to be super noob friendly. You can get by with just 3 things in your active skill bar and 3 things in your persistent skill bar. Oh and Savagery as a replacer for your basic attack.
Active: Devouring Swarm, Warcry, Blitz
Persistent: Mogdrogen’s Pact, Field Command, Oleron’s Rage
The one tricky thing I found that wasn’t clear from the build description was how to spec into Dire Bear on the Devotion tree. Turns out you needed to spec into something like Eel first and then dump it after completing Dire Bear.
The build offers good single target damage from Savagery and good AoE from Devouring Swarm, Maul, and Blind Fury.
Used as found gear since this was my first character. IIRC my second Legendary (outside of the reward for defeating the final boss of the original story) was a Stonefist Rebuke which is kind of a meme since it is can be a common drop. But happily this was a great weapon to carry me through the expansion an into Elite.
Since I did everything that I knew to do in the game with this character I came into Elite at around level 70 and since I had enough Dynamite I went straight into East Marsh in my progress up to Warden Kreig. I was mowing through everything until I ran into the East Marsh troll boss. Owww! But eventually I killed him and he dropped a Troll Bonecrusher of Alacrity with +3 to Savagery and +4 to Military Conditioning. That thing carried me all the way to level 90, until I found a Mythical Tremor. You can buy Troll Bonecrushers (which are used in a couple of crafting recipes) from the hidden merchant in the Blood Grove though they usually only have +Savagery.
The other Legendary item I got was an Amulet of Mercy which is fantastic for plugging gaps in backend resistances like Freeze Duration. It was useable at level 58. And I’ve since found a Mythical version, which is a very slight upgrade (because of RNG the resistance reduction on it is actually lower in most cases than for the standard version of the amulet, but the circuit breaker passive has significantly reduced cool down).
So now I can give my level 58 Amulet of Mercy to another character (I have two that are headed into the expansion content).
At level 90 I chucked some of self found gear for the Malmouth Faction armor (Helm - Elite Malmouth Flamewarder Casque, Chest - Elite Malmouth Vanguard Cuirass, Shoulders - Elite Malmouth Vanguard Pauldrons) that is geared toward soldiers for a 2 or 3K boost in damage and no loss in resistances once I tweaked them with components and augments.

I’ll have to do some tweaking again once I hit ultimate as your lower row of resistances take a significant hit as part of the price of entry, but I’ll use my current setup to farm up a set of Krieg armor for my up and coming Death Knight.
Playstyle. Dive in, debuff, start smashing things, move if you are standing in a one or more pools of nastiness laid down by the bad guys. Oh and learn boss attack patterns and kite around a bit so you don’t take a shotgun effect blast to the face.
In Elite Gargabol and Kubacabra were two pain points. The Sentinel was also scary and I couldn’t even dent Rashalga.
Other than that I could face tank just about anything the game threw at me in Elite.
Thank you for sharing your build Superfluff as it has been quite fun to play in my first run through the game.
Hi Painwright. Glad you like the build, it’s also my favorite. Although, as i found out in ultimate nemesis fights and crucible, you may need to deviate a bit from Superfluff’s Devo setup if you don’t have the full Avenger set and Judicator rings. As i have just the Avenger crusher and girdle and no Judicators, i had to give up on the nodes in Scales, Harp and Crossroads and take 4 points into Ghoul. It helps a lot in terms of survivability and you can easily compensate the loss of health points by temporarily investing a bit more in Military Conditioning or Heart of the Wild. Also, as Fluff stated in the thread, in case you need more OA on Ultimate, you can switch from Dire Bear to 5 or 6 points in Chariot of the Dead. It really helps in case you lack OA from gear.
Appreciate the suggestions around some modifications I can make Aldebaran. It will definitely be some time before I have access to the items as delineated in the original build. IIRC I literally only have the recipe for the helmet and only the level 75 version at that, so tweaks around devotions for survivability and OA are definitely appreciated!
Hey, there are a couple of devotions variants you could use.
This is a version for flat dmg/DA: https://www.grimtools.com/calc/a2dq351V
Or like this: https://www.grimtools.com/calc/q2MkLp0Z with less DA, but more flat dmg/life leech. 5 points in chariot mandatory fo %OA
This is a more defensive set-up: https://www.grimtools.com/calc/qNYJmR72
You can take Empty Throne instead of Owl (i use Owl for reflect reduction, as i swapped myth bear king medal for direwolf one)
This is a fun set-up, with Ultos and Vire, different from the standard one, that i used before getting the Doom relic, because i lacked AoE and Blind Fury only covers part of that: https://www.grimtools.com/calc/4ZDQnDwN
It’s not that far from the other, damage-wise, and the flat OA/flat lighting dmg/% crit you get from Ultos somewhat compensates the loss of Chariot. The Ultos proc, while not as strong as Blind Fury, has great Aoe/life leech (% weapon dmg on it). It doesn’t help with the RR, but Blind Fury wasn’t used for RR either. And it’s really fun to see trash mobs not knowing what hit them, whether a flash of physical lightning from father sky or a literal up yours from big mama Cairn herself Still, it’s something to use if you don’t have stellar AoE and should be replaced after getting Doom and the boots.
Wow! That is a lot of options. Thanks! I do notice that my AoE suffers some when I can’t get Blind Fury to proc, which if I am understanding things correctly is when my crit chance is low because my OA is low relative to the target’s DA.
I’ll have to give some of these a try. As I’m learning some of the directions people take with their build come down to personal preference rather than strict min/maxing. E.g. Some people just love Wind Devils while I find them annoying because they tend to stay tethered to you so if you kite backwards they will often kite back with you so they they stop DPSing and applying their devotion procs (assuming you have something attached to them). Maybe Pet Attack could help? And of course there are the things you do differently before being full build. E.g. I slapped a couple of extra points in Mogdrogen’s Pact on a Lightning Squallancher I’m playing around with because wow do you burn through energy like mad with that build!
Hi Fluff, is that amulet BiS? Is there any other option? What do you think of the Physical damage to Upheaval affix?
Would Peerless Eye be good as well?
Also is Crimson CLaws a must? What about Grasp of Unchained Might with flat physical
Really enjoy Avenger so far
Yes, for builds such as this one, where you have 2 vital devotion procs triggering on crits, OA is essential. Also, your assumption about wind devil is on the spot. Just assign the pet attack on a key binding and Wind Devil will go where you want them to. For energy issues there are several solutions, like Hammerfall powder/ectoplasm/arcane spark/prismatic diamond on gear, or getting a devotion with energy leech, like wraith or viper. Usually people go for energy leech (or energy absorption)
Afaik, the gloves are used in order to cap Savagery. The amulet is BiS, as it provides physical RR to Devouring Swarm
One thing I may not be getting right, and could be because I don’t have enough familiarity with how physical resist works exactly: why does the op claim the character has 53% to 61% physical res, while the grimtools sheet shows 14% and the warder I just rolled to try this build with shows 17%? Am I missing something with the calculation? Honest question here
With Might of the Bear you get 8% more phys res (active all the time when you fight) and the set proc also gives 25% phays res (active most of the time). New grimtools shows 18% without any procs. 18% + 8% + 25% = 51%
with all buffs/procs then you get that amount of phys res. It is not permanent value
So the number in the character sheet shows what you get from gear only? Makes more sense, thanks for explaining it.
Was actually wondering if I was doing something wrong since I keep getting slam dunked in waves 149-150. Gotta consider that devotions are only about 80% leveled through and not maxed yet, and that this character was an Ultos warder I never did much with before, so I never ran Crucible on him and can’t afford devotions/banners due to a lack of tokens. Guess it’s a matter of trying over and over and getting used to the build
