[1.1.1.1] Infernal Aegis Burning DOT Shieldbreaker build showcase

This build first purpose was to get into oathkeeper territory without using new legendary sets and items. It starts with Myth Infernal Knight set, and instead of using melee and half-melee range skills like judgement as the set suggests, gets aegis of Menhir because it is fun and strong. It features more elusive gameplay at range though can facetank most threats too.

Math says that that 18/12 reprisal does 981 burning damage (+300 from MI shield), while 22/12 heart of wrath only does 500. So I put these points into guardian of Empyrion who at 19/16 also does 500 burning damage instead, while doing it on his own and not requiring another hotkey. Last I checked the build did 300K burning DOT ticks. Perhaps this isn’t anything new, except it does so while being a shield tank.

Current setup features 37% physical resistance, some 2,1K armor and something above 300 flat damage absorption from ascention and phoenix. Block is at 40% 2,5K damage blocked. While it occasionally does block something, improving it proved not as valuable as getting life steal, which is why I’m using haunted steel. 8% adcth it grants together wit bloodthurster skill is way better than toad at 3% or investing in block. It does not convert anything to vitality as all physical gets converted to fire first.

Initially I planned two setups, one with more defense and less damage and the other with more damge. https://www.grimtools.com/calc/mN4MYp02 this is the more defense setup, at some point it was scrapped. Perhaps it is not completely terrible, but for DOT builds it seems doing more damage is always better. Meteor shower is also hard to ignore on any dedicated fire build.

Build utilizes new Colossal Defender MI that is easy to get by rerolling vendor at the Steelclap district. It also uses Blazeheart sword you get from Diala for its skill modifiers. Medal is another new MI basilisk fang, here it can carry any useful affix. Green common ring is something I found in stash with OA and DA. Perhaps it has some room for optimization.

My shattered realm is crashing so here is a 160-170 crucible run

https://youtu.be/FTdTB_38uQg lots of lag and damn is it time consuming. My first run after 1,5 years pause.

Finally someone posts a Dot build for FG  i like it and i will try it out.

do you think a vit or poison dot build is possible with oathkeeper? i don’t quite get conversion mechanics yet

Dervish might be difficult to make without new gear, or it will be something like full shadowstrike build. But sentinel can go with transmuted DEE and transmuted aegis. It will need tainted eruption from Abomination in devotion and some points in Yugol. Also Murmur and Manticore.

Skill transmuters transmute DOTs, so if it says fire to acid, burn will be poison.

I might be stupid, but aren’t these DOT builds?

are they? from their descriptions or title i wouldn’t assume they are and so i didn’t “identify” them as such.
i assumed that all abilities that leave a dot are usually taken for their initial damage unless specifically build around their dot effects, which is what i thought this aegis build was doing

edit: are dot builds in GD always reapplying their damage effects via skills, or is there actually dot gameplay, that applies its effect and lets it tick for a while?
to me those are really different playstyles

You can do it either way, however you please. But DOT specialisation usually MEAN you can do #2, stack DOT and kite.

yes, this is how i would usually define a dot build, the other one sounds like a direct damage build with after effects

vit decay is hard, poison is rather easy, as there’s good item support for Poison/Acid AoM, for example voidrend talons

Many bleed builds with savagery do it like that, they reapply the dot so fast, that it has a high chance of critting, so the damage is quite high, while not really being “direct”.
