[1.2.1.2] Purulence - Blight Fiend DoT Cabalist - [All celestials] [SR 80+] No set, No green

I’ve been exploring the idea that damage over time (DoT) will stack if it comes from a different source, and that devotions will do the same if they are proc’ed from a different instance of that source. So if a pet (Normal pet or player-scaled) creates a DoT, a different pet doing the same attack will be considered a different source. So if you have 4 Storm totem, you can have 4 concurent DoTs damaging the same enemy at the same time. Also, if you replace those pets with new ones, they are not considered the same source. To reuse the same example: if you have 4 storm totem, let them attack, then summon 4 new ones, you can have 8 DoTs at the same time.

And what better way to ensure that those DoTs (And DoTs from devotions) stack than to re-summon your pets continuously ?

Blight fiend are perfect for this: They have 3 different attacks (each considered to be different sources) and with the right gear, you can have a new one out every second, meaning you can stack literally dozens of different DoTs at the same time.

The build relies on a modest amount of health regen for sustain. Not enough to facetank anything, but enough to wash off most mistakes.

This is not a build guide, just a showcase.

Reserved for things best not uttered

Pets are as always OP, 1 second CD Blight Fiend is a cool idea tho.

Fully converted reap spirits would be a great add if you dont mind the additional piano. Also you have 4 unspent devo points

Maya also suggested that, but since Blight fiend has only 1 second cooldown, recasting it continuously prompts the virulent death attack (Which stacks with all others) and refreshes sources of damage for even more DoT stacking. So I would have to cast those between blight fiend summons… and I already need to refresh Bone harvest, CoF and BoD.

It was not only hard to manage, but didn’t feel like an improvement damage-wise. (I have no way to objectify this, just the build felt actually slower)

Strange. I did post the wrong link at first, but corrected it very quickly and now when I click I see the good version… Can you try again see if that’s a cache bug ?

If that still doesn’t work: the points go in Raven and/or Hawk. (Though they could go into Ulo or Crab, which is what I was toying with)

Interesting concept! I was going to try a pet build. Never found them that interesting to play, but wanted to try. Maybe I’ll try something like this

Works for me!

Looks like a very fun pet build where you don’t have to worry about the pets’ survivability (which is great for a change), thanks for sharing!

Really cool build. I really like the unconventional devotion, nice job :+1:

I have a question. Is the devotion cooldown per source, or global? So does the scorpion sting only trigger every 1.5 seconds, or does it trigger separately for every blight fiend?

Yeah, that comes from me not really knowing what I was doing

It’s global: only once every 1.5 seconds, sadly

But the DoT lasts way more than that, and gets to stack with the previous one if it was triggered from a different Blight fiend (or a different attack of the same Blight fiend)

I don’t think the devotion DoT stacks as long as it is the same blight fiend (even if proc’ed by a different attack) and probably just refreshes the cooldown, but I am not 100% certain

This is an amazing build.
Had played quite many pet builds so far - this one’s got THE most dmg, both single target and AOE.
Had a conventional try on Blight Fiend before (ghol, ofc) and it was lousy.
The idea of spamming bf and making use of countless dot attacks works great!

Plus, the active exploding makes for a very active pet-playstyle - love it!

I could improve the devo a bit, including shepherd’s crook:

Thank you very much

I wish I knew a bit more about pet builds to really optimise it.

I’ll try that out for sure. Any advice is more than welcome, since I barely know what I’m doing here.

Edit: Now I remember why I didn’t pick Shepherd’s crook: Not enough active skills to bind everything. I have Rumor on CoF, Bysmiel’s bond on Bone Harvest, scorpion sting on Blight fiends, and Manticore on Blight rift scourges…

I could bind one of those to Familiar to make room for it, but I don’t know how reliable it would be, given that I keep it on “Defensive” behavior so it doesn’t die and concentrates on mend flesh.

I’ll give it a shot with a few different things, see what happens

Well, that got me thinking, so I revisited the build and realised that I don’t even need the last 2 points in Murmur, so I moved a few things around to fix my resistances.

New link in the OP

I did include the raven.
Raven - murmur
BH - Crook
BlightFiend - Scorpion
Rifts - Manticore
CoF - Bysmiel

I left the raven on aggressive and included Lightning Strike.
Proce Murmur quite well, dies only to Kaisan and Fabius on SR80+ and mends well.

For the little experience you are claiming to have, the build is rly well done. The numbers are all where they should be (we need to crit for the ghol spiders and heck, we indeed have a pet build with 3400 effective OA … !!).
2700% dmg is delicious,
100+% crit is great
Resistances and attack speed lack, but we don’t mind, cause we do dots and recast - all perfect.

I’ll try that for sure! (I also realised that I didn’t care THAT much about Manticore’s proc as Bysmiel’s hound also reduces resists, so I don,t mind relegating it a bit to the back)

Adding a single point to lightning strike is a great idea to increase proc chances.

Thank you !

I gotta give props to @Maya for fine-tuning it… For example, I didn’t even thought of the OA and crit part before Maya pointed it out.
