[1.2.1.5] Double Aura Mageslayers Cold Northern Wyrm Infiltrator

Thanks ChatGPT for the art.

Introduction

As a relatively newer GD player (250 hours clocked in as of this post), this was my first attempt at a fully homecooked build, and also my first post on this forum. I saw there weren’t many (if any) builds utilizing Northern Wyrm, so this was my attempt in making it work. I love playing 2h ranged builds, and my goal is to try out as many different 2h ranged builds in the future. There are still several improvements to make to further minmax, however the bulk of the build is complete and I’m relatively happy with how it turned out.

The core of this build is Mythical Northern Wyrm, along with the Mageslayers set. Mythical Chains of Nightfire, Alkamos rings, Ilgorr’s Eternal Vigil, and Frostdread Cuirass are highly recommended items.

Can swap out relic for Ignaffars Combustion if you’re playing fully lazy AoE aura, and Mythical Deathwhisper Leggings should strictly be better if optimizing for damage. I stuck with my Solael pair since the ones I rolled gave really nice boost to nearly all resistances, which I liked too much to give up.

Playstyle

The core playstyle of the build is having very strong passive AoE damage - Double auras with blade spirits, proccing item skills such as Ice Wyrm’s Breath. Against trash mobs, do nothing except run past them and they all die.

Against tankier mobs and bosses, you play a standard cold 2h ranged gunner.

I swapped out of Inquisitors Seal as those specs above were for my fights against Calla and Crate. Feel free to swap around skill points when necessary.

Endgame

SR 30 → 31 is done comfortably, however its not recommended to aggro all 4 bosses in the boss chamber at once as the build is prone to being bursted.

Mogdrogen - 2:40 clear

Ravager of Souls - 2:37 clear. This was my first ever Ravager of Souls attempt and I had no clue how this variation worked, so I kited from spawn, which resulted in a lot of dps loss. If this was Ravager of Flesh, the variant I always fought, I’m confident I would be able to clear around 1:30

Callagadra - 4:21 clear, same as above. Not much experience fighting Calla, so I run and gunned the whole fight.

Crate - First time clear. Don’t ask about the time :smiling_face_with_tear:

STRENGTHS

  • Chill levelling process; rushed Nights Chill → Aura of Censure, can pickup most cold damage weapons and armor and it will be fine for campaign
  • Decent survivability
  • Strong AoE clear
  • Comfy SR30->31 farming

WEAKNESSES

  • Relatively weak boss clear times; my times can definitely be improved via further min maxing and better piloting, however this build will not yield record times for celestials
  • No circuit breaker, susceptible to being bursted down

Nice build, great for the 1st time. And congrats on killing all the superbosses.

Not sure if better (and if it can be finished easily because I only changed core items and skills), testing would be needed, but sth like this is a popular way of optimizing a build like this Non-set variant
(I maxed conversion, Blade Spirits, Chilling Rounds and Seal)

Here I have some old link that also has Rune of Hagarrad, but less default attack focus: +Rune of Hagarrad

But I changed my mind later and made Caster variant from it (Chillspikes). And that’s the build imma test if I ever get to play Northern Wyrm Infi. Maybe with Bat if needed / Eternal Haunt instead of 1 Alkamos. This might be the way to play it - “Pseudo Chillwhisper”.

small notes
at blade spirit level 24 you get an extra summon(30% more BS dmg) - and you technically have the points/items for that

Breath of Belgothian is a melee dualwield exclusive skill, so point can be switched

on the variation comment side
if you feel like the build need more defences, your devo map “overspent” affinity does allow for a circuit breaker like ghoul, or you can 3pt Giant’s Blood for chain heal ex attached to Prismatic Diamond

nice catch!

@tqFan you can also remove Breath of Belgothian :stuck_out_tongue:

Moved around skill points, and blade spirits are now 24/16!

I played a lot of dw nightblade, so I tunnel visioned breath of belgothian :smiling_face_with_tear: thanks for the heads up, would never have noticed on my own

Other damage types feels a lot easier on devotions, but theres so many good ones for cold damage and ranged. I’ve been experimenting a lot with this build, and I’ll try out other combinations to try find a good balance.

I’ll eventually put up some gameplay once I think the builds been minmaxed well!
