[1.2.1.5] Ghost of Aether: 4:00 Crucible Gladiator 150-170, Shard 90, Ravager, Callagadra - elite melee performance on a budget - Aether Reaper

Thanks, I am glad you like it!

Ravager is a relatively easy fight. You can also tank his first sunder with MoT (and reflect it on him). Otherwise just learn his Sunder animation (it’s easy to spot and he uses it like every x amount of seconds).

Calla with this Reaper is very hard, I would say success rate would be 50-60% IF you master the piloting in that fight. Build is just not really fit to fight Calla - it doesn’t have the armor nor the phys res for it.

I also tried min-maxing Rutnick Oppressor and Rutnick Paladin recently and was actually a bit disappointed in their performance. They seemed just decent to me but not really top builds.

No problemo :> and yes indeed its lots of fun, I was always quite fond the aether damage aesthetic. Plus I always liked that helmet as it’s a Dark Souls easter egg (Praise the Sun!) and the modifiers on it are quite interesting

Goes perfectly with the Blaze Herald daggers

I remember RektByProtoss made an Aether EoR build back in the day I believe it was this one: Oppressor, Level 100 (GD 1.1.3.0) - Grim Dawn Build Calculator however that is from version 1.1.3.0

Thanks for the advice I will keep trying until I get it :>. I only ever killed the Ravager a handful of times back when I was last playing, however I can imagine now for builders its more of a challenge to come up with a character that can deal with the Sunder mechanic…

Also I can’t recall if I ever managed to beat Calla, but that is ok I’ll give it some goes with this character but I will also see how it goes against the other Celestials

Yep! I’ll take your word for it as I’ve been out of action for 3.5 years the game is a different beast compared to when I last played it  but suffice it to say I have noticed the buffed aether damage

hi mad_lee, love your guides. would you consider this to be better than the former top 20 phantasmal blade aether reaper?

Hi, thanks!

I haven’t played Aether PB Reaper in a long time so might be wrong but I think this is a bit stronger than Aether PB. Reasons being that PB as a skill is a bit clunky (like maximizing damage with PB requires some piloting skill) and then leech with melee is just better. Add to that 15% less Aether RR too.

For leveling please check beginner guides, this is an endgame build

hewo! thank you, but I’m not sure…

I can imagine how to level up first 50-60 levels. I understand some key points and can try to create a leveling tree on my own… That won’t be too hard, I suppose… (I have a lvl 50 spellbreaker, so I’ve played nightblade before). But the problem is that I don’t know much about later stages… Anyway, once my friend wakes up, I will start on… like… “standard aether reaper”. I hope it will be playable enough w/o lategame items… need 94 lvl, right…

all those things, like understanding build details, are “problems” for future me, right? :>

Although it’s an endgame build guide this build actually works like that (or so I was told) from level 50 or 60, or even earlier, mainly because of weapons.

What details do you have questions about?

What details do you have questions about?

Huh… not exactly questions.
I was mostly talking about leveling, like skill tree progression and devotion order… but I think I can figure it out. Also I’m a little bit worried that I can skip some great “leveling” MI’s for this build. Additionaly, I don’t know much about factions, so I’ll definitely miss some good timings… although, I don’t even know which faction items are good.
So, while finding the final gear is all about “farming”, finding intermediate gear is all about knowing the game. That’s how I see it as a new player.

I think starting here is a bit too much for a new player. I recommend just playing the game and having fun and experimenting while on Normal difficulty. As soon as you get stuck on Elite or Ultimate, you can ask around on official discord or read some beginner guides on mechanics etc. And once you finish Ultimate Campaign you can actually try and follow a guide like this if you really want an easy solution for endgame farming. But don’t min-max your journey, it will suck all fun out of it.

I love min-maxing, that’s why I’m here. But you’re right, I should at least finish ultimate campaign, hehe…

Check in Grim Tools where to get MIs present in the build and get them when you’re there.
I almost never use faction gear while leveling personally.
Discord is indeed great for asking beginner questions

I leveled it from 0 without any particular problem, but was not my first char, I had already access to lokar set, exp potions from malmouth rep and so on. All of this speed up the process A LOT.
Anyway the important MI that you must not miss while leveling are the swords. They are not far, so get there it’s not hard. And when you strike 55, the shard of beronath on the main hand.
Have fun!

“just” adjust to aether

aether reaper is relatively easy, and if you wanna level like Maldee’s setup you actually can relatively easy because he’s using so much greenery (and not even theodin stick)

you click the greens in grimtools, and check their monster/where they drop, then you just make a note of it to obtain them when in those areas.
*you don’t need those exact affixes or rolls during levelling ofc, you just need useable stuff then move on

helmet replacement Ascended Casque - Items - Grim Dawn Item Database
shoulder replacement Ascended Shoulderplates - Items - Grim Dawn Item Database
pants replacement Solael-Sect Legguards - Items - Grim Dawn Item Database
amulet replacement Death-Watcher Pendant - Items - Grim Dawn Item Database / Ellena's Necklace - Items - Grim Dawn Item Database
medal Mark of Nacrathan - Items - Grim Dawn Item Database
rings you can use a multitude to fix resist etc, Gollus, Cronley for attack speed, Living Ring for hp and vit res
gloves and boots you use faction when appropriate/in level range (35-50-75) “in case you didn’t happen to drop better” (there are no MIs for those slots to cheese things)
^likewise faction rings and medals can be totally fine to use at lvl 40 (requires Honoured), and faction armours at 65 can be great to plug holes too
*if you dont’ wish to craft the shard to use for AA you can use Theodin stick from lvl 40 onwards Heart of Theodin Marcell - Items - Grim Dawn Item Database (you’ll liklely not reach the boss that early/low level)
**also ignore lvl 94 of the greens shown, they exist in many/multiple lower level versions, just to filter out duplicates, and it’s the “dropped” from section that’s relevant

Outworldly speed.

Can this build get on the current top 20 list ?

Thanks! (although not the quickest of melee nightblades)

If the testing was today? Maybe, hard to tell. There would be more competition from pet builds this time for sure. This build would definitely be considered at least - it has elite damage/tank ratio, falls a bit behind in terms of QoL (you have both Bone Harvest and sometimes Ill Omen to cast) and definitely wins out big time in terms of gear score.

@mad_lee Thanks for the great build. I am curious since this build is so budget/easy to put together, do you think there is a better optimized version out there with a higher budget? Or is this a unicorn of being full tuned at a low cost of entry?

Good question. I think double rare weapons are somewhat attainable and will push the build quite a bit with some fancy double rare chest. But it’s close to a unicorn situation. You can do a different looking Aether Reaper with Veilkeeper too (made by @banana_peel) and it’s a bit of a different look (also very strong).

1.2.1.5 Update!

Ghost of Aether? More like Ghosts of Aether. I decided to trade a bit of build’s Beronath’s Fury tooltip for four almost fully Aether Blade Spirits. Not a new thing to do on Aether Nightblade dual-wielding Blaze Heralds and here it proved to be very efficient. More damage and more tank due to higher hp and phys res numbers and Serenity’s proc.

Find the updated grimtools in the op, here are some videos with build’s current performance:

1.2.1.5 Aether melee Reaper vs. SR 30-31 4:06 run

1.2.1.5 Aether melee Reaper vs. Ravager 41 seconds kill

1.2.1.5 Aether melee Reaper vs. Crucible 150-170 “naked” ex (no buffs/no banners) 4:34 run

1.2.1.5 Aether melee Reaper vs. SR 36 3:57 run

1.2.1.5 Aether melee Reaper vs. Callagadra 1:03 kill
