Hey guys! First post, first theorycraft. Didn’t really see any DW FS out there, so I decided to make my own. I was looking into Spellbreaker and Reaper with Blaze Herald OH, but I found the RR and the damage numbers, respectively, lacking.
Mindwarp is another possibility for OH, giving more phys-aether conversion at the cost of 20% RR. Veilkeeper’s is a strong alternative to Bonemonger’s. Krieg boots and gloves are also worth considering. If you feel like farming double rares, it gets even stronger.
Strengths: 111%(!!) aether RR, sustain for days, practically reflect-proof
Weaknesses: few resistance cap increases, DA relies on Arcane Will proc, could stand more HP and phys res
Meh: 95% WPS, 190% AS, 99% armor absorption
I’ll be rolling a fresh toon to try this out. I’d love some feedback before I max!
There’s actually 1 in the current top 21 build thread, as one of the runner-ups:
Number 29:
It takes a different approach (mindwarp, Veilkeeper set) but should have some good tricks to learn.
Specifically note the health and OA, which are MUCH higher on the top 31 build. 12K health really isn’t much these days. They also have higher damage, more lifesteal, a bit of passive life regen… well, what can I say, those guys have been doing this for a long time.
The RR is nice.
Reflect isn’t much of an issue with direct damage builds, and none at all in Shattered realm.
Phys res and armour aren’t terribly important nowadays because phys damage got nerfed, but armour is the more helpful stat of the 2. 100% absorb is not needed on a low armour build like this one. In fact you might consider dropping it to 92%.
As mentioned, the lack of HP is the killer here. And the low OA is likewise against current meta.
By all means experiment with your own build, much more fun than just following some top-whatever list, but I would definitely redesign for higher health at the very least.
Welp, definitely can’t compete with a build that does twice the damage while being tankier. I had a really difficult time just filling out the resists, which came at the cost of survivability. I underestimated the opportunity costs of using a set with minimal + to relevant skills, and the dump into Siphon Souls/Reap Spirit means no points for Overload or Soul Harvest. Veilkeeper definitely seems like the way to go. Chains of Ygraad opens up vitality devotions, too…
Is there a way for me to see at a glance all the sources of X conversion or Y resist? I feel like most of the time I spent theorycrafting was shuffling around trying to figure out where things were (or were not) coming from.
Or you can use the text search to find broader categories, like this one for “damage converted to aether damage” to find ANY type of conversion to Aether.
For resistances though it’s often easiest to farm a green item that offers the right ones. All green items can roll affixes for pretty much any resistance. Just find a slot where you can put a green item and search in the text field stuff like “vitality resistance” to find see which affixes to look for.
I meant in the character builder itself - some way to see all the active sources of whatever stat I am interested in. The advanced search is extremely useful, and it’s been a great help finding skill mods in leveling MIs, but some kind of holistic view would help a ton. I end up having to hover over all my slots, going to devotions and hovering there, forgetting the info from my slots and going back, etc…
all you can do is mouse over to see if the item has conversion stats
there is no unified conversion “tab”, exception being if a skill has direct conversion modifier via items and you mouse over that skill in the tree/“hotbar” (which ofc doesn’t appear with global)
I have regularly spent an hour designing a character and thinking I am finished only to realise I forgot to look for a source of flat resist reduction or enemy damage reduction or whatever. Or conversely, open an old character and spend 5 minutes checking before I find that I did have these things after all as a modifier on some skill given by some item somewhere…
I’m guessing you could make a spreadsheet to do it? Some kind of checklist you can fill in?
But yeah, ultimately I can’t help you there. It would be a great feature to have.
