Since the new update 1.2.1.6, the game crashes at the character selection screen.
If no character has been created, nothing happens, and I can access the settings.
As soon as a character is created, the game crashes.
Platform: Windows 11 - Steam (up to date)
Graphics: Nvidia 576.80 (up to date)
Files verified via Steam: Yes
Mods: “Rainbow Filter”
Game settings reset: No change, it crashes immediately, and I can’t even send a report.
Windows permissions: Checked and unchanged
Cloud or no cloud: No changes, still crashes.
I’ve tried both with and without the mod, and the game still crashes.
The antivirus program should still have the necessary permissions, as it worked fine with the previous version of the game.
I’ve completely uninstalled the game and deleted all folders, including those in %Appdata%, and I’m currently setting up a fresh installation. I’ll check again to make sure everything has the proper permissions. This will take a few hours, but I’ll report back immediately once I know if anything has changed or not.
sometimes after an update some antivirus throws a fit and decides to block GD/has happened several times in the past on patch day, a couple even doing so silently or even with a previous manual whilelist entry (bitdefender? and avast as examples)
I’m not using any third-party software like Bit Defender, Avast, Norton, or similar.
Windows Defender is sufficient, and as mentioned, the permissions are unchanged and allow read and write access for incoming and outgoing data packets for the game.
Okay first off all, this Thread can be closed if you will.
So i figured out, it’s not a game releated bug.
While I was waiting for the installation yesterday, I thought I’d quickly run to the supermarket to grab some things. When I got back, my PC was stuck in the BIOS. (My thoughts: WTF)
You guessed it—hardware failure. My gaming hard drive quietly gave up the ghost yesterday, which explains the weird errors I was suddenly getting.
A new M.2 drive is ordered, and I’m just waiting to pick it up today.
Sorry if I caused any mild panic. Wishing everyone a peaceful weekend.
