Hello, fellow takens!
I’ve never posted here, but I truly believe this build deserves a guide, for multiple reasons, so I decided to register and make a post about it.
Here are the reasons I like it so much:
- it’s my build

- it uses minimal buttons: EoR, 1 buff (Inquisitor Seal) and 2 movement skills;
- it’s fast and fun, relaxed play style with a lot of passive damage;
- it has great clear, with good damage and survivability;
- it’s easy to put together; you can start it from 0, half of the items are crafted, the weapon is a free drop and the rest are easy to get (with 1-2 exceptions, that are easy to replace).
What really made me write this though was that when I started thinking about this build I first tried to find it on Grim Dawn Builds and, to my surprise, I didn’t find any EoR Paladin build using Chillheart. To me this item screams Paladin EoR and yet there is only one build 6.5 years old that’s DW 2 Chillheart daggers and uses the Shattered Realm set. So if you are aware of a build like this already please let me know, I’m writing this only because I didn’t find anything similar.
So I came up with this: Build
Yes, I know, many of you will (rightfully) disagree with me seeing I have completely ignored Word of Renewal and Ascension skill lines. Just imagine how much stronger it can get if you’d be willing to push those damn buttons! I like to keep it simple though ![]()
This is how my character panel looks in town:

Don’t get scared of the relatively low damage of EoR, we have a pretty beefy Aura of Censure supplemented by Ignaffar’s Presence & Combustion on armor & relic and we also have a ton of damaging disco balls flying all around us with every hit.
I’m not a fan of Crucible or Shattered Realm, but I went on to test the build there so I can have an objective benchmark to compare to with other builds (and doing so I have unlocked a few achievements too
):
- it can do Crucible Gladiator up to wave 160 safely without any defensive sites built; for waves 161-170 you need some beacons and banners, the last couple of waves are tough (definitely wouldn’t recommend this in HC);
- it clears very fast shard 32 on Shattered Realm, facetanking bosses with plenty of time left in the end (8-10 minutes) and no help from any shrine; I got bored after that and stopped there.
Considering that there is plenty of potential left out from not using Word of Renewal and Ascension I’d say these are promising results for anyone who wants to tinker with this build.
So, regarding the items, we have:
- the weapon is free drop in act 7 ultimate (wait in the green pool in Vanguard of the Three and it will drop after about 20-30 seconds);
- blueprints for rings are random, they drop fast on a fresh play;
- we get blueprint for medal from the Forgotten Gods’ Cult of Bysmiel faction; until you get to craft and use this you can use any medal that fills resistances;
- the recipe for belt is a pretty common drop and until you get it you can use any belt with +skills to Oathkeeper or Inquisitor (any MI1, MI2, Coven or Dreeg factions craft, plenty of options);
- the helmet is also crafted; from my experience the blueprint is not that common, depending on your luck you might have to farm for quite a while to get it on a fresh start; but until you get it The Fettan Mask free drop from elite/ultimate will be perfectly fine;
- the shield is a pretty common drop; from what I’ve tried this is the best for us and I can’t wait to see what upgrades it will get with next patch, Fangs of Asterkarn; if it doesn’t drop until you get revered with Malmouth Resistance faction you can craft Wrathguard, it’s a good alternative easy to come by that also helps with resistances; but that’s just to keep up with the crafting theme, there are plenty of other usable shields that will drop for sure;
- the amulet is random drop; depending on your luck you can have 2 of them by the time you finish campaign or you can farm for multiple days to get one… but you can use any +skills to Oathkeeper or Inquisitor (+Oathkeeper is overall better for this build, but the MI doesn’t have great bonuses and it’s very easy to farm for a Ulraprax’s Sting with good affixes);
- the pants will be your farm chore
you need to start The Hidden Path questline to unlock Guardian of Solael farming for these pants; I have settled with Stanching of Reptilian Resilience, but combined with the augments on the other items (also consider the augments on rings and amulet) there are multiple other options to get the resistances capped; - armor, shoulders, gloves and boots are all common drops and there are plenty of good alternatives until you get these; another very good option for boots are the Mythical Greaves of Ill Omens, probably even better than what i have now.
Why do I want Reptilian Resilience on pants? Without Word of Renewal this build is starved for movement speed. This is also why I recommend crafting items at Egellon, for a 1 in 3 chance to get 1-3% Movement Speed as crafting bonus. It’s the only way to get capped on Movement Speed and his other crafting bonuses are useful too.
About leveling:
- start Inquisitor and use Word of Pain or Storm Box of Elgoloth (or both);
- I went straight to Forgotten Gods after killing Krieg and got a Scarab Carapace from the cave near first waypoint;
- rush Aura of Censure to max level and you won’t need anything else until you have leveled enough to start using EoR;
- use either Kymon’s Sanctified Blade or Riftclaw Slicer for the rest of leveling; I used Kymon’s Sanctified Blade (easy to farm, consumes less energy) and Stormguard; for Riftclaw Slicer you start Cult of Solael questline in FG and hunt Onarix in Bloodied Wastes, right after you exit Vanguard of the Three;
- if you play HC be careful, you will feel somewhat squishy at times until you have all devotions in place and you equip the amulet and the armor in the final build; stay in the Inquisitor Seal and you will be fine;
- whenever you feel the energy burns too fast while spinning consider lowering the EoR level, the bulk of damage doesn’t come from the skill itself.
Now a final word about Eye of Reckonig: this kind of skill is a staple in any ARPG and some get it right (PoE, D3 etc), some don’t (D2). Here the skill is almost right. With a few exceptions. 99% of the time it’s smooth and fine and then you suddenly realise you’ve had your right click down but you’re doing nothing for some time. I don’t know, it might be because the skill can be easily interrupted by enemy hits and debuffs, but I’m not sure that is always the case. It feels weird anyway. And I also think getting your movement slowed that much while spinning is not warranted. To compensate for this much of a decrease in speed it would need to either let you spin through enemies or have a much bigger AoE. This way it would also avoid the embarrassment of watching yourself glued to the tougher bosses, rubbing your nose against them while spinning in place. Also it costs too much energy to keep spinning! Other than that it’s a great skill and very satisfying when mowing through packs of mobs ![]()
This is it! Thank you for reading and please let me know what you think of this. I hope it performs well for those of you willing to give it a try.
Good luck and have fun!
