[1.2.1.6] The Cold Assassin - Beginner Cold Reaper Guide + Endgame Build

Nope, 3/5’d Rhowan’s. I’ll look again, but I’ve checked 3 times before posting. :\

My Grimtools link? I don’t have one. Playing on Xbox.

Did you max out Leviathan? In the bottom right? It should be 6 points only.

Ok, totally my fault. The 48/55 is the number of shrine points I’ve accumulated, not necessarily spent. I only understood this after placing a point into Raven and seeing the same 48/55, so I have 7 to go - 3 more in Raven and 4 in Blind Sage. Sorry for the bother and thanks for all the help. This build seriously kicks booty with just 5 active skills!

For the first time I got the furthest ever in GD (level 40) then at Homestead I couldn’t pick Kymon’s Chosen and couldn’t figure out why. Turns out I completely forgot about not picking Necromancer until I pick the faction first. Joke’s on me, I guess.

A bit demoralized at the moment but will likely start over from scratch again and be more careful in future.

That faction lock-out is … not the best feature in the game.

Yeah, and the thing is I went out of my way to fully explore every zone up that point. Ah well!

you can still use the char, transition it into a phantasmal blades, or drain essence or even aether aa+wps reaper then, GG :ok_hand:

if you have a char that’s kill Logh/unlocked Elite you you can super rush the Kymon’s chosen faction choice with a Merit, which makes these "we don’t like necro starters"chars way easier,
so could be it’s even worth to continue your existing if you don’t have an Elite unlocked toon yet, just to make Kaine’s Malkadar reaper faster/simpler to faction solve

I would personally just find a second character I enjoy playing and have that one farm the sword. A completely different build without any necromancer levels.

The transfer stash exists for a reason, after all.

That way, you will eventually have 2 different cool character builds, rather than 1. And it is probably more fun. Trying out different characters and their styles is the most fun part of the game anyway.

You can even argue that it benefits the build from a thematic/vibes point of view: Why WOULD the necromancer warrior join the burn-the-witch fanatics? The other character can be an inquisitor or oathkeeper who will feel much more at home with Kymon’s Chosen. And you get to do both quest lines and see more story content too.

(And you can also continue playing this one whenever you feel like it, until you reach ultimate difficulty the other green weapons will do perfectly okay for levelling.)

Have been following the guide but find it lacks detail between level 65 and endgame. There are 19 levels between the level 65 and 84 GT links and would benefit from some guidance about what order to place skill points.

I know that there are limited options for rings but some suggestions for alternatives while levelling would be useful, I wouldn’t want to be wasting too many Skeleton keys while levelling, end game fair enough. Other than that it’s a decent guide.

This is the optimal way to level Reaper if I’m working toward the Chillwhisper DE Reaper right

Uh, no?

I mean, you could, but if you want to play a DE reaper, why not just play a DE reaper from the start?

The top 20 build advice thread recommends doing this

If you follow this guide you are playing an auto-attacking melee character for what is likely to be the majority of your total playtime… which is possible, but again, I have to ask why. It’s a very different playstyle, and an auto-attacker isn’t that easy to level. (Like the guide says, it’s squishy especially at the start of ultimate. The DE reaper does not have that problem thanks to massive life steal.)

Ah OK I’ll switch to DE when I get a Spectral Shield I was not aware of DE being so good now I haven’t played in a year

Yeah, it’s gotten much better.

Though do note the upcoming patch will nerf it a bit again… the devs saw too many DE builds in the top 20 thread, it seems.

Awesome guide. currently levelling with this myself, a couple of questions rose up though
Can you explain why would you use Blade Spirit all the way to the endgame? I didn’t notice it contributing to damage that much and I am able to proc Rowan’s Crown with WPS like Execution
Speaking of WPS, is it worth it to use Belgothian’s Shears and Amarasta’s Quick Cut since acquiring Malkadarr’s Deathblade? Or is there something beside damage that I don’t see?

the reason blade spirits are bound to rhowans crown is bc blade spirits proc devotions very well

1 point in BS gets you two spirits which each have a 25% chance to proc crown any time they attack

if you bind crown to a WPS it has a 25% chance only on that WPS. meaning, on execution it has a .25 * .23 =0.0575 (5%) chance on each default attack

You want to maintain 100% WPS chance. Necrotic Edge and Execution will be your best WPS but any WPS is better than a plain attack.

(You don’t, however, want to go significantly higher than 100% as all your WPS proc probabilities will then be scaled down, so that your chance for Exec and NE is reduced.)

Thanks! Somehow messed my calculations on WPS chances so I thought that it would be fine without those I mentioned.

Now when I see it, it really does look too small of chance. I guess I didn’t find Rowan’s Crown proc that important. Thank you!

I came across this post and I’ve quickly studied the build. Correct me if I’m wrong, but don’t both weapons have a lot of base physical damage? I see that you’re scaling cold and have managed to convert only 50% of your physical damage to cold. That means that you’ll lose a lot of total damage. Maybe I missed anything? Because these things have fooled me too a lot of times before, so I started looking closely at each weapon’s base damage type ever since.
