in the german translation a comma is missing after “…uns eine Chance in einer sterbenden welt (,) eine möglichkeit…”
the english text says: “… gave us a chance in a dying world, a means to…”
so the spirit of the orignal text - with “a means to” to be understood as a “reenforcement” of chance" - is captured, but due to the missing puncuation the translation is indeed ambiguous
I could not track down “Skald Atolka” (wasn’t to be found in either of three locations grimtools offered [maybe she leaves Plgrim’s Rest after completion of the last quest…?) so I don’t know the original text
but here the “zum” is unnecessary as “Stammesanführer” is not further specified as “zum – gewählt/gemacht/berufen etc… worden” - thus it is “just” an honorary title and does not need an article (zu dem)
Oh, I see, thanks for the input - I did not look into the English version to spot that. I understand that keeping this reinforcement is actually desired. In this case I suggest changing the order of words in the sentence, as this feels more natural for me:
“Vater Kymon bot uns in einer sterbenden Welt eine Chance, eine Möglichkeit, gegen die Blutkulte…”
Oh yes, you’re right. The fully correct sentence is therefore:
“Obwohl es nicht vorherbestimmt war, dass er jemals Stammesanführer hätte werden sollen,…”
Unfortunately, even three months after the release of “Fangs of Asterkarn”, the issue remains unresolved. I have just re-tested both class combinations by creating new characters in the live game (see the new screenshots).
In the German version, we have the exact same name for two different class combinations.
Since this is a translation issue, I am not starting a new thread; instead, I am posting here and referencing the original discussion.
The first combination is Occultist/Shaman, which is named “Conjurer” (in German: Beschwörer).
The second combination is Arcanist/Berserker, which is also named “Conjurer” (in German: Beschwörer).
This means we have “Conjurer” (Beschwörer) appearing twice. A quarter of a year after the release, this really needs to be fixed.
The English version uses the correct, distinct terms (“Conjurer” for the first and “Evoker” for the second), which is why hardly anyone notices the error. In the German version, you actually have to play these combinations to realize there is a problem.
The latter combination, Arcanist/Berserker, is an “Evoker.”
In German, this should be translated as “Rufer”!!!
That term is not currently in use for any other class combination in the German version!
That wasn’t meant as an “accusation,” either. Ultimately, I’m just glad that these issues,
regarding Makaan, Lancel, and the other things posted here, are being addressed. Otherwise, everything is fine.
After a break from the game for a few weeks due to health issues, I only just started playing again yesterday and have been looking into the new content. Despite the bugs, it’s all turned out really nicely, thanks for that!
It’s not the word “und” which is missing, but an en-dash.
I can imagine that it is an issue with encoding, or rather a change of encoding (like UTF-8). Maybe in the past different languages used different encodings, and Crate decide to unify all to UTF-8? Maybe the transfer didn’t work out properly. This would at least explain why for German only two special characters are affected: the apostroph ’ (which typographically should actually be a high comma ’) and the en-dash – (in German “Gedankenstrich”), which is distinct from a hyphen - and a mathematical minus −.
I’m just curious as to why it is not possible to automatically correct all dialogue files for this broken characters in grep- or sed-style?
Here are a few more display issues related to the German translation in the multiplayer screen.
As you can see, everything is displayed correctly in the “Host Multiplayer” window.
However, there are three areas within the “Join Multiplayer” section that are completely illegible.
There is plenty of space available in the top-right corner of the screen to reposition these elements, which would ensure everything looks proper and, most importantly, remains readable.
For context, I am using a 24-inch Full HD (1920x1080) monitor, which is essentially the bare minimum these days. Most users likely have 27-inch WQHD or even 4K displays, where there would be even more available space.
To be specific: the two explanatory text blocks are unreadable, and the drop-down menu on the middle-right side is also not properly legible.
